Criminal Behavior in Office

criminal conduct | the presidency

I haven't written a new post in about a week, as I've been somewhat self absorbed. So, let's get back to what I do better, if I may.

This week, Herr President pulled one of those punk moves that really tells us that he's more criminal than any president in recent history; yeah, I said it. He's decided to pull a major power move and tell people that no longer work for him that they're not allowed to talk to Congress about anything he's done that may possibly be illegal as it regards attorneys general across the United States. This, of course, follows on the heels of his commutation of Scotter Libby, who outed a CIA agent and, not only destroyed her career, but put her life in danger at the same time. And let's face it, which of us here doesn't believe the outing of this woman didn't come from the president himself, getting back at an ambassador who didn't fully support him?

This guy has more secrets to hide than Tricky Dick. I do agree that there are things presidential privilege should be allowed to cover, but not something like this. Also, though I thought he should have done it, President Clinton didn't offer commutation or clemency to Susan MacDougall, whose only offense was not walking to talk to Kenneth Starr (another major league weasel), but Libby is a convicted federal felon, and Junior has said that he might commute his entire sentence at some point; what the hey?

Our government has been hijacked, folks, and this guy doesn't care because he knows he's not running again. Look at how many people in his own party are now trying to distance themselves from him. He is still in double digits as far as approval rating goes? If so, how?

I'm so glad we have little more than a year to do with this guy, but I fear what he could still do to us while he's in office. Man, I'm starting to sound like Sassys!

But, Catfish

What would we do if he were thrown out?? Cheney as president scares me more than this last final year does! You make some fine points and like sassy, you're willing to look at all sides of it. That's the one thing lacking in most posts in favor of or against the president.
Yep, it's scary, but hopefully he wont get us blown up before he leaves office!

You're right, Spooky,...

we toss out Junior, and Cheney takes over and then we're really in trouble. Man, that was probably one of the smarter moves Bush ever made; built himself a nastier guy than himself as a back up! Ugh!

I think it's the

other way around. Ya know, when GW sold his soul to Cheney, ol' Dick wanted to make sure Bush didn't make him look bad!

Wow, imagine the devil being affraid of bad PR!

approval ratings

call me a conspiracy theorist....but I would not doubt that those ratings are bought.....just like the presidency was......and if they werent then that doesnt say much for the general IQ of the United Sheep of America.....oooops, I mean States....

If he's buying, ModelMom,...

he's not getting his money's worth, as I think he's down around 30% now, which is pretty bad, but not his worst.

Understanding people,...

there is always going to be that core that's going to support the president, no matter what, just because he's the president at the moment. So, I'm not overly shocked that it's even that high, just disappointed.

Well now ya know I MUST weigh in here!

Sassys

For starters we are NOT sheep...we are honest people who really can't believe that our government is as corrupt as any of the war torn corrupt governments in Central America....Bush needs to be impeached for SO many reasons...But the most important reason of all is simply that we need the rest of the worlds respect back. We are nobodies sheep, despite the fact that our "leader" is a cowboy wannabe! He needs impeaching and SO does Cheney...I say we impeach the two of them, and deal with them as we would any other criminal...put them in jail right next to each other and of course next to Scooter Libby...I can here the jail house blues now...
"I was the president of the free world...can't I get you guys to quit farting and snoring?" I also believe that if Bush were impeached and Cheney became president we would in a sense be playing right into their greedy hands...A sitting president gets reelected quicker then not...And Cheney for 1 and a half years is scary...but Cheney for 5 and a half years is downright terrifying!

spookyyank's picture

are we just stunned?

Instead of sheep? I believe what you say is true - if we impeach we'll re-gain some (not all!) respect from the rest of the world! But, I'm really not kidding when I say the idea of Cheney in the big chair scares the living shit outta me! And, what you pointed out about the "sitting president"! Run away! Run away! Dear lord, I think we can all see that happening!
So, what do we do, Ms. Smarty-pants??? To impeach or not to impeach........well, you know the rest......

HOME OF 'STALKING EDGAR' THE MOVIE

Oh hell yeah IMPEACH!!!

Sassys

But like I said impeach BOTH the P and the VP. The only thing remotely sheepish about this country is the fact that we are somewhat gullible. That does not make us fools, whereas the REAL sheep who follow this great country into everything from a "Happy Meal" etc. So when America fucks up we are great targets for the "real" sheep because they are left scratching their asses saying "well what do we do now?" If they are English they say "Lets see what Tony Blair does" Then they get angry at the Americans who DID NOT vote for Bush in the first place and sure as shit didn't coerce them into blindly following a moron into an unjust war. UGH! I actually know Americans that have recently visited Europe and because of the total animosity towards Americans there, they actually told everyone that they were Canadians! I told them it would be a cold ass day in hell before I would pretend to be anything but an American and that this is one of the greatest countries in the world...the very fact that I can say the words "Bush is an asshole" Makes me most definitely an American! And no goddamn sheep!

ModelMom's picture

baaa baaaa

some of us may not be of the wooly variety.....but far too many are.....of course, that is only my opinion......but we are known in a lot of circles as being a country that will "buy" pretty much anything we are fed (literally and figuratively)....not that other nations arent exempt from this too....

I like the veranda idea best for political discussions! Sitting high above the vineyard....nothing but peace in "our world".....talking like it's only fairytales.....an evening sky and a light red wine.....ah yes, the pub can wait for movie talk!

I really liked that movie 'Hostel"

and I am waiting to see 'Hostel 2'. It was a wicked look at the "what if that could actually happen in another country". I didn't know after seeing it, if I wanted to travel abroad, lol.

Glad you weighed in, Sassys,...

because I was thinking of you when I wrote the post. You know, when we first heard that Junior had authorized the illegal wiretapping of citizens of this country, I figured he might slink away and behave from that point on. But he basically said "Yeah, I did it, and I'm going to continue doing it" and thumbed his nose at the Judicial Branch, which didn't step to the plate and protect the people. What stuns me is that both Thomas and Scalia talk about defending the Constitution to the letter, yet they abrogated their responsibility by not censoring the Executive Branch; this is why we all believe they're just stooges for the President, especially Roberts, though he just got there so it's harder to put all the blame on him,... yet.

You're also right in saying that we look bad to the rest of the world, but there's no way I'd be going anywhere and saying I wasn't an American; not that anyone would believe I wasn't if I did say it. Still, it's also the reason I'm not going anywhere; why would I put myself in that position anyway?

Man, I can't wait for the day when these two guys go away; I know a Democrat is coming in next, and I'm still wondering if I really care all that much which one it is.

I DO!!!!

Not to get too political, but I'm going to put this out there right now. Until Hillary Clinton apologizes for that war vote, I will not vote for her. It's not because I care about the war vote, because pretty much EVERYONE voted for that when I was one of the 10% who thought it would be a bad idea. It's not because I need an apology that much. I don't care if you apologize for it, I'm more upset that you were duped into believing it in the first place.

She won't have my vote until she apologizes because we currently have a President who is stubborn, inflexible, and thinks that his actions are above reproach. So tell me why I should vote for someone who is exactly the same way, just because they have a D in front of their name. I am done with politicians who can't admit that they are fallible.

I agree here as well only I would also require MZ Clinton

Sassys

Pay back the money she took for her campaign from the pharmaceutical companies...notice she no longer harps on about health care reform? Yeah I will be voting for Obama!

That's why it scares me to think Bush has a voice

Sassys

when it comes to electing our SCJ....He knew the moment that he wasn't at least berated for his illegal activities that he could get away with murder...they ALL suck!

Catfish's picture

Not all of them, Sassys,...

only five of the four. :-)
