Credit Card identity theft – some advice

credit card | fraud | theft

The number of incidents that involve some kind of credit card theft or fraud is rapidly growing. At its easiest, it may be the fraudulent use of your credit card and at its worst, it may be a thief taking over your identity and using it to buy a house, car and even a passport.
Here are some things that can be done to help against credit-card identity theft:
- keep an eye on your credit card when waiters or shop assistants take them away to make a transaction
- check your statements regularly, especially if you carry many credit cards with you and would not notice if one was missing
-never give out your details to a cold caller
-shred important information before you throw it in the dustbin (such as bank statements, utility bills, credit card application forms)
-if strangers are doing some work in your house, lock away anything that has your personal information on it
-finally, if you want to check with a credit card reference agency then try Equifax(www.equifax.co.uk).
