credit card fraud

I wan recently ripped off quite a bit a cash.
Thats why I desided to give a few tips to anyone that needs it

Know the warning signs of a scam artist. Not only customers are victimized by credit card fraud - anyone processing credit card transactions through a merchant account are also at risk.

Say "no" to requests to process transactions for other entrepreneurs who don't have merchant accounts. You will be responsible for charge backs stemming from sales generated by the other person. Similarly, avoid customers with letters giving "permission" to use someone else's credit card.

Take extra care when processing sales of expensive items like computers, electronics and jewelry. Go on red alert when dealing with customers who load a cart with expensive items without paying much attention to the details of the items. Watch out for last minute shoppers who purchase big-ticket items a few minutes before closing time. Both could indicate the customer is using a fraudulent credit card.

Keep your cool around customers who create distractions at the check-out. The ruder the customer, the more important it is to get authorization and verify the signature.

Keep the sales draft and the merchandise behind the counter until the transaction is complete. (You'll need the sales draft in case of a charge back, and the customer should leave once the transaction is verified.)

Destroy all paperwork (and computer diskettes) containing personal customer information tossing it in the trash. Scam artists search dumpsters and love to find records that can be used to create fraudulent credit cards and identification.

Swipe each card and take an imprint - especially if the customer tells you the stripe doesn't work. Scam artists damage the magnetic stripe on fraudulent cards, forcing you to do a manual key-in and bypass the anti-fraud code that is embedded on the stripe.

Be cautious of items ordered over the phone that will be delivered to non-residential addresses. The order could be impossible to trace if a charge back is issued. Avoid processing telephone transactions in situations where the customer sends someone else to pick up the order. You are responsible for charge backs unless you can prove that the owner of the credit card was present at the time of sale
