How to Craft the Silk Flower Framed Mirror

The first step in crafting the silk flower framed country mirror is preparing the wooden picture frame. You can start by giving it a coat of paint, but this is not necessary. Warm up your hot glue gun before you start.

Unroll a length of the sphagnum sheet moss and cut off strips that will just cover the sides of the picture frame. Use the hot glue gun to glue these securely in place. This provides the base of the country mirror frame.

The next step is to prepare your ribbon for addition to the mirror frame. Cut the ribbon into four pieces and tie a simple bow with each one. You can leave the ends trailing, or clip them short in a diagonal line. Depending on the size of the mirror, your ribbon should be between one-half inch and two inches wide. A stiff ribbon, or one with wire edges, works better than a very floppy ribbon.

Again using the hot glue gun, attach these bows to the four corners of the country mirror frame.

Now it is time to prepare the silk flowers. Begin by using a strong craft scissor or wire snips to cut the stem of each flower to a very short length. On many silk flowers, the stem can simply be removed completely without cutting.

Choose your largest accent flower variety and glue one on top of each ribbon bow in the corners of the mirror frame. Then, simply use the other flowers to create your own personal style over the rest of the frame. Remember, larger flowers should be tucked in with smaller flowers, to achieve a more natural look. Finish the flower arranging with small sprigs of the natural dried flowers.

When the flowers are where you want them on the country mirror frame, your next step is to attach the mirror to the frame. Simply slip the mirror glass into the back of the picture frame in the same way you would the piece of glass. You can use the clasps or small nails to keep it in tightly, or even use your hot glue to attach it permanently.

Hang the silk flower framed country mirror on your wall and enjoy!
