Craft a Monkey Theme Height Chart for Your Child

Many parents like to keep track of their child’s height at home. Often, the child is made to stand straight up near a wall or doorframe, and they are measured against it. The parents make a mark on the wall and write the date next to the line.

This is a fine way to keep track of your child’s height, but there are problems with it. First of all, you have to draw on your wall. Second, you will lose the record if you move houses. Third, it is rather plain looking.

Instead of marking the wall, you can make this quick and easy monkey theme height chart for your child.

Materials Needed for the Height Chart

1. A piece of paper six feet long
2. Roll of brown corrugated paper
3. Scrap of brown faux fur
4. Construction paper
5. Permanent marker
6. Scissors and glue

Designing the Monkey Theme Height Chart

The monkey theme height chart begins with the six-foot piece of paper. Lay it out flat on a long table or the floor. The first step is to take the corrugated brown paper and cut out a tree trunk shape up one side of the chart. If you make a palm tree for the monkey, it is almost straight up and down.

Once the tree trunk is complete, use green construction paper to make large green palm fronds and glue them to the top of the tree. These should overlap the edge of the height chart’s white paper.

The next step is making the monkey. Cut out the faux fur in the shape of a monkey’s body. Then, cut out a hole for the face. Cut a long strip of the faux fur for the monkey’s tail. Use a piece of construction paper to draw the monkey’s face and glue it to the back of the faux fur monkey. Then, simply glue everything to the top of the palm tree however you think it looks best.

Finishing the Height Chart

After you have the tree and monkey in place, it is time to make the measurement marks on the white paper. Since this height chart is so tall, hang the bottom of the paper only six inches off the floor. Then, using a measuring tape of yardstick, mark off the feet starting six inches from the bottom of the paper.

After marking the feet measurements, go back and mark both the inch and half-inch marks. Of course, this depends on how precise you want to be when using the height chart for your child.

Making a zoo themed height chart for your child is a great way to both decorate their room and keep track of your child’s growth. Anyone, regardless of artistic skill, can make this zoo theme height chart.
