Confirm Him, Already

Does anyone even care whether Judge Alito gets confirmed for the Supreme Court? Senator Ted Kennedy wants to start filibuster becuase he things that would get people to pay attention to the hearings. So, apparently, he doesn't think anyone cares....or at least enough.

It looks like the Republicans are going to force a vote, and Alito will be confirmed.....but why has it taken so long? Why must we be bombarded with the same news story day after day for months like this? Politicians are incorrigible....and we are paying them for this! Come on people.

And I still want to know how a candidate can be "too well qualified", and what does "not controversial enough" mean any way? Tell me when its over.

Ted Kennedy is right. This doesn't happen often, and when it does it's often for the wrong reasons. But in this case he's still right. I recommend for your reading the story of Chief Justice Roger Taney, who decided in the 1850s that black men were not citizens of the United States, and that slavery was a Constitutional right that no act of the US Government could restrict.

If in years to come women are dying of coathanger-induced sepsis, and more street children than even now are growing up to murder, mayhem and despair through the poverty of their entering into this world, remember the role that apathy played in allowing Justices Roberts and Alito to take their balance-shifting seats on the Court.

My opinion

We live in a great country....all entitled to their own opinion. Mine is this. Last week, they announced that 40 percent of the babies conceived in New York City.....ARE ABORTED. There is something wrong with this picture, something that no Supreme Court Judge can fix.

If women want to OWN their own bodies.....they better start learing how to CONTROL THEMSELVES.

The VENT feels goooooooood.

If you change "they" to mean both men and women, then I fully agree with this. But I am male, and have spent my entire adult life being told that I am NOT entitled to my opinion in this matter. Any suggestion of mine that an unwanted pregnancy is not 100% the result of male irresponsibility would get me tossed off any faculty in the land, tenure protection notwithstanding, and quite possibly land me in jail as a sexual predator. So ... how would YOU manage this trick?

I hate abortion. But I also hate the birth of children into circumstances where they are unwanted and lack adequate provision for their support. Both are murder. But at least the former helps a little to stem the tide of human overpopulation which threatens to overwhelm our planet, and us along with it.

All should be responsible

Of course, I am talking about everybody in the sense of being sexually responsible....and every other kind of responsible. Both men and women are capable of this. In this day and age, there is no excuse for an unwanted pregnancy in this country...period. But as for the abortion part of it, I guess I was talking to the women...since they are the ones who actually walk into the clinic and spread their legs. Sorry.

He's going to be confirmed anyway

The Democrats don't have enough votes for a filibuster, especially since at least four D's have already said they will confirm him. Any attempt to filibuster will fail. making them look weaker than they already are.

Ah yes, and why is that? Because the Republicans and their corporate/"christian" masters have party discipline, and have successfully pinned labels like "godless" and "amoral" on their opponents - unfortunately with some truth. Right, Mr. Chappaquiddick? Mr. Monica?

So they march on, while the rest of us either quibble among ourselves or tune out with American Idol and [snarl] sports betting.

Please read the poem The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats. And the history of Germany in the early 1930s.

American Apathy

"Does anyone care if they vote in Alito...why must we be bombarded with this same news story day after day..." not a precise quote but enough for the rough and dirty BlogWorld...

Wel, hot damn, it's kinda important, no? This is the same 'Supreme' Court that stopped the recount of votes that allowed this fraudulent president into office in the first place. They stopped the recount in a presidential election and handed it to Dubya on a silver platter.

And you get a position to the Supreme Court and it's For Life, okay? Alot of good or damage can be inflicted by a person given this important position, so we shouldn't just be bored and hope it finishes soon so we can get some news about Britney or Jennifer Aniston. This actually matters. Alot.

It's all about checks and balances folks! Dubya and Alito are both cool with letting that erode so it's all about presidential authority, and you can not care all you like, but I'm telling you, that road leads to Fascism. And we're already walking that road. Wake up and make some noise! If not for yourself and your loved ones then do it for your country! And if not for them, do it for the rest of the world that has to put up with us.
