Confessions of a Blogger

Submitted by myspaceoryours on March 24, 2006 - 8:24pm.

I'm sitting here with a small bag of Runts (the candy), picking out the bananas, because... I don't like them. Does anyone like them? I never got the whole banana-flavored candy thing. But maybe that's just me.

Anyway, I haven't blogged in what....2-3 days? And I've really missed it. I've just been busy and distracted and ... ok, lazy.

So please don't expect anything like "Is your ex checking you out on MySpace" or "Of Blindness, Left-handed Snails, and The Long and Winding Road to Scientific Research Funding". Oh wait, I didn't write that last one...

Is it just me or has the atmosphere on Blogger Party changed some in the last week? I don't notice as many posts by some of my favorite bloggers. Maybe it's just been a slow week for everyone, who knows?

I've been following the drama about WritingUp and illegal traffic exchanges... but I've chosen to keep my account active there. No, I don't blog there (at least not recently)... but I do lurk occasionally. I've just never gotten the feeling of "community" when I blog there, so...

Speaking of Blogger Party, whose blogs do you normally read when you're browsing blogs? Are you like me and only click on the ones with good titles or the ones written by people on your buddy list? Or do you read all of them?

I admit, there are blogs on subjects that I have little or not interest in... parenting, pets, uh... sports (except for James Champion's blogs -- because he took the time to actually explain sports betting to me), or blogs that just ramble on about how boring someone's day was.... ;-)

I like blogs that have some meat and substance to them... or blogs about my favorite reality TV shows ;-) I suppose it's a lot like browsing books at a bookstore, I only pick up the ones that have a nice cover and title...

Do you ever not click on a blog because you don't want to increase their "reads"? I do! It's hilarious, but it's like this power that you hold...and you take full advantage of it.

Or do you ever feel pressure to put out good blog after good blog? Like if one blog gets, let's say 200 reads, do you feel like your next blog is a failure if it doesn't get the same or more reads? It's enough to make me want to quit blogging sometimes... I worry about peaking too early... or not ever really peaking at all...

I guess everyone has their weird blogging habits... these are just mine.

Anyway, that's it for me. I am working on a few new blogs... but so far nothing is complete. So until they are... this is what I'll be posting. :)

I never got the whole banana-flavored candy thing.

I hated the flavor of "banana" candy - and then avoided them like the plague when I discovered that, at least in the cheaper ones, the flavor is a compound called "amyl acetate" that we used to use in the processing of cells for electron microscopy (i.e., killing and fixing), and is also used as an oil paint thinner. The true "artificial flavoring and coloring" list, if you knew it, would make you throw out just about anything with bright colors or sharp flavors. It's unflavored potato chips for me thanks (with some sorrow that I eat potato chips at all).

Have to confess to many of the foibles you cite ... :). Oh - and thanks for the quote :) :).

Thanks for the info... I think. ;-) Now I can throw away the bananas and not feel guilty about it (or feed them to my brother.)

by flavored anything. My roommates (two psychology majors and one who is now a counselor) and I used to have conversations about how grape, strawberry, watermelon, etc candy and Kool-Ade dont taste anything like what they are supposed. However, we are trained from the time we are very young to think of THAT particular flavor as grape or cherry. It is an odd little form of brainwashing.

My more eccentric roommate actually stopped using the flavor names. He would just refer to them by color.
"what flavor is that Karl?"
"it's purple"

It's a good thing I spent my college years with such intellectual conversations and insite woven through every and all conversations.

I know! Things rarely taste like what they're supposed to...

I'm not a big fan of flavored drinks or candies to begin with, but if I'm eating something "flavored" I stick to "the red ones" because I'm more likely to like them than any other "flavor". ;-)

And what else is there to talk about in college? Classes, books, tests... puh-leaze! ;-)

Well you are one of my favorite bloggers. I also like pchan33 and IamTammy but she seems to be gone lately? o ceallaigh is funny, too :)

I agree there are some I just am not interested in that much, but I try to read differnt subjects. Its kind of addicting sometimes. But dog training and stuff doesnt interest me no matter how hard I try!!

I really dont think you should worry that all your blogs have to be 200 reads! Just blog about what you want to, it should be some fun right?

That's what you are! ;-)

Thanks for the compliment... and I'm totally with you on the not-so-interesting subjects... I mean, I'm sure they interest SOMEBODY, just not me (I don't even have a dog!)

And I think I'm just my own worst critic (isn't everybody?)... the more I do this, the less I tend to worry about it, but it still happens.

But yes, blogging should be fun, and it is or else I wouldn't do it...:)

And I love reading your blogs too -- you write about things I've experienced... and make me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Like the one where you met your "online guy" in person and then... you know... yeah. :)

I pretty much ONLY write about Pets & Parenting, so you probably don't want to read my blog, lol!

I don't even like bananas and would never, ever eat banana Runts. I also avoid any candy that's flavored "green." Yuk!

If you like reading about pets and parenting, click here!

Thanks for the comment Brenna... I didn't mean to imply that I don't like your blog, just that in general those are not topics I normally read. Still, I have noticed on Blogger Party (and WritingUp) and think you're doing a good job :)
