Condescending Tripe....CNN and "Black In America"

One nice lady said "We tell our whole story" Really? No, you can only tell the life story you have lived. (Notice I said nice lady? NOT black lady)
My question to CNN and Mz. not so black ("I am half white") Soledad Obrian is this....If senator McCain were as popular as Obama is, would they do a story on "Old war vets who desperately want in on the presidential gravy train in America"? They could go to any Shady Pines old folks home and find some old lady that can say "I don't remember all our story but I bet it was good"
The idea that Americans, be they black or white, have to explain or teach each other who they are is not only demeaning, but extremely insulting to both races. It is phony pandering "We now get who you really are" its disgusting. What kills me about this,is no one can "know" what it is to be "black" or "white" in America.....How about "what its like to be American in America" eh? Or better yet "what its like to be piss poor and ignored by CNN in America."
If Obama should lose this election, CNN won't have much to report on. Soledad Obrian needs to understand a couple of things herself. We know before she attempts to "teach us" what it is that she is trying to do. Why? Because those of us that actually take the time to watch the news are already educated enough to do that. So who are they teaching? Do they think that some redneck moron is going to "see the light"? Or actually take precious time away from their racist behavior to switch the channel to CNN?
This is not teaching, rather this is pandering, and the fact that sista Soledad is part of it makes her look like she herself is unsure of who she is.
Are they trying to find a "kinder understanding?" Soledad means solitude, so is this piece payback?
The coolest thing about this country is its diverse cultures. Another thing that bothers me, and is said repeatedly on CNN is, "the state of black in America" can anyone tell me what the hell that means? What about "the state of Jews in America?" or "the state of my ingrown toenails in America."
Oh wait a minute, no,no,no, they are teaching black people "what its like to be black people in America" Soledad doesn't know, so therefore she is on a "fact finding mission" and she is not above shoving this infomercial drivel down everyones throats.
I will vote for Obama because he is smart, capable, and I truly believe he will take this country into a future where CNN and Soledad will understand what it means to be "Americans in America."
P.S. Least I forget "hint, hint, wink, wink," to the rap intro.

"Watch what you watch!"
Just thought I'd add a little rap to my comment. Did you see Nas on the Colbert Report? Love that guy!
And I'd like to add my own little 2 cents - what about:
"the state of mature ladies looking for love in America"
"the state of mature ladies who can't get hormones but their male counterparts can in America"
"the state of mature ladies who want to win the lottery in America"
"the state of mature ladies' sagging butts in America"
"the state of mature ladies' sagging chins in America"
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Why the hell can't someone do a series of reports on the lack of serious scientific research on sagging necks in the mature population? Huh? HUH?!?
Now, there's a subject that we can all relate to - black, white, red, yellow, green, purple with orange spots.........
And a chinnee chin chin to ya!!

Don't you think it's disgusting the way CNN does this? It's outright pandering...in the hopes that they wont be "left out" when Obama wins. Fox news doesn't bother to "pretend" they even want to know what it's like to be SMART in America and yes I did see Nas on the Colbert report...he was cool as hell.
Ah, ha!ha!ha! Sassys!
Yes, I do think that CNN bullshit is disgusting. I haven't read it once and don't intend to. Pandering? It's downright whoredom. That's why I think that pandering to the "mature" population would make so much more sense. I mean, really, everyone's chin is going to sag sooner or later and, sooner or later, everyone is gonna have the dreaded turkey-neck. So, why not do something that will really have some benefit? Start pushing the scientific community to come up with a solution.
Seriously, though. This pap they are smearing around seems more insulting to blacks than anything else. It's almost like they are trying to cement the idea into the American public that blacks are 2nd class citizens.
And the celebrities that are "on" CNN are dumb

enough to think "they will make that difference"....Also since when does anyone give a shit about little Mz Soledad? I bet she wins some kind of recognition for this shit! She can finally look at herself in the mirror today and say "Today I will be black"...."Tomorrow I will be white, got those in laws coming to dinner after all" WTF?? Now about your apparent obsession with chins, do you have a butcher knife? LOL.
Very interesting post. I agree with
your point of wanting to vote for Obama because you believe he will do a good job and be good for the country and not because of any other spurious reason. Point well made! (no rapping from me..)
Thanks James24

It's so easy for people to forget why he would be the right choice, when all they talk about is stuff that has nothing to do with the real issues facing ALL Americans today.
Interesting take, Sassys,...
and now I'm not sure how I feel about how you felt about the show, if your comment is on both halves of the entire series. I just wrote my review of the series on my business blog.
I don't feel condescended to on the series; actually, I felt a little bit of a confirmation of some parts of life, even if I felt the series was limited. I've had to deal with some of those things in my life, though not as many. I've been followed in stores. I've been pulled over by the police and had my license looked at, but not charged with anything. And I actually had a vice president of a company tell me once that he almost didn't hire me because he worried that some of the company's clients might not want to work with a black director; I'm sure he meant that as an encouraging statement of my qualifications, but even 20 years later I'm not sure how to take knowing just how close I came to not getting a job and it not having anything to do with how good or bad I was.
I also felt it wasn't a show for black people at all, because every single black person I talked to said there wasn't anything new in any of the stories that they didn't already know, but were troubled by some of the statistics that were posted that we didn't know, such as the number one killer of black women between 25 and 34 being HIV.
So, it wasn't a great documentary series, but it had its moments of importance.

my problem with it was the timing....the only reason this show was put on the air was because Obama is running for President....why didn't they plan this show around February? Isn't that MLK birthday celebration month? I mean the whole idea to me is just plain wrong. Almost like preaching to the preacher.
True Sassy,...
I'll give you that timing seems a little convenient. But, to be somewhat fair, they did start shooting the thing 18 months ago, and I don't think Obama had said that he was even running for anything at that time. But having it for February would have been better timing, I must agree.

that this February they will shove it down our throats yet again? It's a sure bet! I have a good friend who is black and when I first saw the ad for this I turned to him and said "So....How do you feel being black in America?" He got my meaning and just laughed because it really is a stupid question and concept!
I want to know
more about in grown toenails in America. Seriously I think some of this comes from the so called politically correct things like equal opportunity monitoring that (over here) has categories for white British, Black British and Asian British - I won't fill them in. I agree it should be Americans in America or Brits in Britain otherwise you get the feeling that some people are more American or British than others. Codswallop.

Codswallop! Now ya see why I like to have you around...I would never have thought of a word like that...I usually say "Egads" LOL. I used to work for a brief moment for the Census Bureau, literally "counting people"...And the one question any foreign person would always ask me was "What race am I? Uuuum the human race?" It really is outright bigotry and it's accepted because no one really speaks out enough about it. And why should they speak out about something that is sanctioned by their own government. I have heard all kinds of reasons and have yet to hear one that is acceptable.
I hope he is elected...

I would rather have an "unknown" in the White House right now versus McCain any day of the calendar year...not only will he do a better job, but for the first time in ages we will have a President that is not fodder for late night comedians. John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are about the only people on the air that can take the Mickey out of Obama but only because he is equally as intelligent as they are, it's almost too easy for them to make fun of the far right...it's unfair to have a battle of wits with someone who is as unarmed as the Republicans are. Tire gage anyone? Hmmm? LOL.
