Concern About Splogs

bloggerparty | duplicate content | google | SEO | splog

I have a few blogs now, but I post the fewest blogs on Bloggerparty. Why? Because whenever I'm here, it seems like well over 50% of the content is SPLOG.

Some of it is just duplicate content. In fact, much of it. I see the exact same articles, word for word, by the same people, here and in my other blog communities. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it didn't pull the community down by lowering the ranking with Google. Also? It's just really annoying. I don't really want to comment on copy-pasted material, especially not to articles that are probably just paraphrases of news stories.

Don't get me wrong. I like the odd blog about new/weird news stories. It's just that the good ones always seem to actually be written by the authors, and always have some commentary or basis for further discussion.

Until today, I was pretty well under the impression that Bloggerparty wasn't as concerned about Sploggers as some of the other communities to which I belong (namely, Blogfeast). It felt as though here, it was pretty well being tolerated. Then I read Terry's Post, and although this isn't a direct call for action in this community, I am very glad to know that I'm not the only one who is bothered by it. I know there are some quality bloggers here, who put a lot of work and thought into their posts - I just can never find them amidst the splog!!

Don't Worry Too Much, Amber

Every community has different standards and methods of dealing with it. Here, you can Flag a post as spam and it will be removed once it gets enough votes. I know this means you have to actually view the post and that takes a moment, but if you're concerned with the community and furthering your success within it, it's worth it to spend an hour or so a week flagging posts you know are splog.

Well...

You brought up a lot of the reasons why they are serious infractions. Splog is splog, regardless, and it all works to clog up the systems, push good content out of the top positions and make it harder to find, get the site penalized in search engines, and more.
