CLAWS - Another B-Movie That Fails To Live Up To Its Potential

The mayor of the town stands up in front of the Sheriff and announces not to publically announced the deaths of the tourists because it would have an adverse effect on the tourist dollars if word gets out. What movie is this? JAWS? Nope. It is the JAWS clone, CLAWED.

CLAWED is a Bigfoot on the loose movie in the tradition of CURSE OF BIGFOOT (1972) and BEAST AND THE BEAUTIES (1964) Oh, wait a minute. CURSE OF BIGFOOT was so bad it was released in 1972, but was really made in 1966. Maybe there needs to be an asterisk placed next to the title.

When it comes to the independent, B-Movie horror movie scene, what is pumped out these days for the Sci-Fi Channel and for the DVD shelves at Blockbuster are fairly embarrassing. This is a shame as the B-Movie horror world during its glory days of the late 1950’s to the early 1980’s had an edge and uniqueness to most of their product. That uniqueness and edge is missing from what is cranked out and dumped on the home market these days.

Why even bother reviewing CLAWS? It is a rip-off of GRIZZLY (1976) that itself was a rip-off of JAWS (GRIZZLY, by the way, made $30 Million on the drive-in circuit). Instead of a shark or a bear, we get a sasquatch. What we do not get is anything unique or original or eyebrow raising. More than just a poor film, CLAWS is yet another example of the disappointing state of affairs found in the B-Movie world these days.
