I was recently reading a news article online about a church group that apparently goes to the funerals of soldiers that were killed in Iraq to protest. Apparently these protesters carry signs thanking god for IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices) that kill so many in Iraq and shout jeers and curses at the family members of the deceased veterans. They even wrap themselves in upside down American flags.

It is the belief of this church that God has killed these soldiers in order to punish them for fighting for a country that "embraces homosexuals". I find it hard to understand why these people would choose to harass military families, when the military doesn't even allow homosexuality.

It seems that a group of bikers has formed, calling themselves the Patriot Guard Riders, and their numbers now total more than 5,000. They attend military funerals, at the families invitation, and combat the protesters with patriotic chants and displays.

These protests have become such a problem that many states are working on legislation to limit protests at funerals. What is the world coming to when grieving families can't even be left in peace to mourn the loss of their loved ones? Can anything more be desecrated?
