Childhood obesity

childhood | Food | parenting | technology

We hear on the news all the time about how the kids now are over weight. The blame seems to be put on the food they consume. Now the big plan is to limit "unhealthy" foods in the schools. I believe it's more to do with the lack of activity nowadays. There are so many video games and things like that for kids to do, that they just aren't active anymore. It's more technology to blame rather than the food they eat. With school funding cutbacks, the first thing that goes is P.E. and the sports.
Parents can put a time limit on the kids for how long the kids can play their games, but usually both parents have to work, so there's no one there to monitor how long they play those games.
I just think, once again, the government is looking in the wrong place to fix a "problem" Of course, one of the government's ideas was to tax junk food so people won't be so apt to buy it. Is this a possible way to help the problem, or another money grab?

I don't think it is any one thing...........

I'm pretty sure that food/nutrition is just one of the causes. I am amazed at how much preprepared food young people eat, and the large quantity too. As well, they don't get to run around so much. If they have limited parental supervision (single parent, or one or both working) they are much safer staying in the home watching telly, but they need to run around, breathe in fresh air, burn calories, and eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegies.
