As the world watches (at least what we can) the government of Myanmar uses its military might to put down protest in the country. As people are shot and arrested for there efforts to bring about change some people in Myanmar believe the U.N. will do nothing as you can read for your self by clicking the link to the e-mail. I requested information from several people living in Myanmar and received responses from only three.
It is reported that the government had tried to shut down the internet to prevent information and pictures from getting out and at this time it is sporadic and may explain the lack of responses. One internet cafe owner said that the internet only work between 10PM and 4AM and it is illegal to use it.
This response was received from a Pastor who lives in Myanmar but was in the Philippines when the troubles began: (Please keep in mind that English is not there first language)
“Now I'm in the Philippines. I heard thet all communication is cut off. Yahoo said it is communication is OK now. But we cannot communicate with our family till now. I'm vey worry about my family, my wife cannot sent email to me. My home telephone line also is twisted to the other wrong place. I cannot call.”
I also received this e-mail from a missionary, who operates an orphanage in Myanmar, and honestly this letter drove the reality of the situation home for me. It also indicated the risk that one student in Myanmar was willing to take to answer my questions and try to get the truth out:
“Hi Bill, thanks for emailing me, but internet access has been cut now, and I could not write you well now. The curfew is from 10 am to 4 pm, I can open website during that period and it is not good to use internet right now. After the situation is stable, I will answer all your questions. I am risking to open website right now, and it is not good to do like that this momenet and I should stop soon. Or I don;t know what will happen”
By clicking the link below you can read for yourself what one college student said about the situation, he also provides links to pictures that were sent out illegally. (According to government restrictions) Click here to read the e-mail.
