Captive For 24 Years

Every day it seems we learn that life is indeed stranger than fiction.

In the news today is a story coming out of Austria where police have found a woman who's been held in captivity by this man for about 24 years. That's bad enough, but of course it gets worse. Seems the woman is actually the 73 year old man's daughter, and he's fathered 4 children by her, including one, 19 years old, who's presently in the hospital in a very serious condition that hasn't been disclosed yet. Supposedly, that's what started the search for her mother in the first place.

That's all we have on the story thus far, but it's an incredible tale. I find it incredible that no one noticed a missing 18 year old for that long, or that there could be four children conceived in such a manner and word never got out.

It does prove one thing, though. Sometimes you have to worry more about the monsters in your own home than any strangers.

I heard it was 6 kids and it is pretty disgusting. Apparently the mother thought she had run away to join some sort of cult. Surprising she never suspected though seeing as how it was done in their house, albeit behind a secret wall.

which seems to happen often when someone leaks parts of a story before the official word comes out. It's still quite disgusting, even worse now that we hear how he treated his kids/grandkids. At 73, jail's too good for him.

True. We had a weird story here where some bloke fathered two kids with his daughter who was 30 odd years old. The main difference was she did it willingly. they're both sick.

and shared it with another friend of mine who lives in Australia, as I also heard they were on your version of 60 Minutes. Odd as that was, at least their relationship was contenting, and one could "slightly" understand it because they didn't know they were father and daughter when they met.

But in this instance,... man,...

The mother of that young lady HAD to have known...now she may have been killed by this sicko, but stuff like this is always known about by somebody, usually either another sicko, or by someone who is too frightened to speak out. The neighbors may have seen something or heard something, but unlike many European households, this country is far too polite when it comes to "our neighbors"...I once had a neighbor arrested for beating up his wife...I do not put up with crap like that...and it's time we, as a unified country, started taking a personal interest in what our weird ass neighbors are doing!

It's something that bothers me, Sassys,...

how the mother could have NOT known. I mean, someone had to hear something at some time, right? A baby crying or a child screaming, and it sounds like it's coming from inside the house. I mean, 24 years,... that just seems odd, though, in the same country, didn't they have that woman who showed up after being held for 10 year? And right here in town, though it wasn't for as long, we had Jemelski holding different women over the course of 15 years for up to 3 years at a time, and none of his neighbors knew it either, though his wife was sick and he'd built a dungeon that wasn't directly under the house. Still, it does make you wonder.

years too...and I also believe that somebody else was in on it...some other pervert, because this kind of behavior usually perpetuates itself, and this guy would be boastful to someone. His ego is immense.
