Cannibalistic Toddlers!

ModelMom's picture

My son was on a playdate last week when he got bitten for the very first time ever by another little boy. It was so awful for me to witness....call me a soft hearted mama. And I know that once he starts preschool he'll be pushed, pulled, smacked & bitten many more times by more aggressive kids.....but it still breaks my heart!

My son is a wild child. I have blogged ad nauseum about that. He has non stop energy and an even more non stop ability to throw temper tantrums, but he has the kindest and most loving heart. He has never been one to bite, smack , push or take toys away from other kids. In fact, he often offers whatever toy he has in his hands to his buddies, and his hugs & kisses to dad and I as well as his friends are plentiful beyond imagination. He is definitely a lover & not a fighter. So it kills me when he encounters toddlers with a more aggressive, if not, violent streak to them. It is unavoidable, I know, but it's hard nevertheless.

This little biter boy that we met at the playdate was like a mini pitbull! I could see his little head & curls shaking as he bit down harder and harder on my boy's finger, until my son (who has a pretty good threshold for pain) started screaming. He wouldn't stop biting down even as I ran over saying "no, no, no! don't bite!", until I physycally had to pry my son's finger out of his mouth. It's crazy! Maybe other parents are more used to this if there kids have been in daycare, or have biters themselves....but man, if I didn't know better, I would've though this little guy was a cannibal toddler! His mom made him apologize which was nice......but personally I would have tacked on a time-out or a prompt removal from the fun time of the playdate. Hey! I'm a mom! Can you blame me for being defensive of my son and hsi little appendages?!

ICK!

Your son sounds a lot like mine. He's not rough (unless play wrestling or something), shares toys, and just looks on as other kids take his stuff. Sometimes he just looks at me when that happens, and I know he's sad but he doesn't speak up.

He starts preschool on Tuesday. I've been worried about him liking it, but I didn't even consider kids biting him and stuff. Thanks :(

I had a dream about it last night!!!

In my dream I brought him late on the first day. Geez!

I hope he's not too tired onTuesday. He's had a hugely full couple of days, and he's not gotten enough sleep.
