Can you really make money online?

Is it worth the effort trying to make money online?
Do you have to spend more time actually trying to make money online than actually going to work?
Is all the effort you put in to make money on line really going to pay off or could you just end up earning hardly anything and have wasted all of your time?
You hear countless ammounts of stories each day about people who have made lots of money online and think why don't I give it a try. At the end of the day though how many people can really be successful from working online?
If it was that easy and anyone can do it then why do so many people have to go out to work? You spend hours each day signing up to dozens of websites and putting in as many hours as you possibly can all night and day. Sometimes spending all night up trying to earn money but at the end of the day will it really pay off. Are these false hopes? Is this as likely as winning the lottery?
Out of all the millions of people who try to make money online how many of them do you think make enough money to leave work and be able to pay off all their bills and essential costs?
How reliable is it once you have started earning money? Could you be earning for a couple of months and then earn nothing? Is it worth giving your job up to do it?
Personally I would love to earn money off of the internet but at teh end of the day is it really possible?
We will all keep plodding along trying anything and everything we can to make money online. Hours each day spent at these very computers. Some of us will be successful, some of us won't. Until we try though and put in as much time and effort as possible how will we ever know?
