How Much Is A Human Soul Worth?

The Wall Street Journal published an article by Suzanne Sataline this week describing how an Atheist, Hemant Mehta auctioned off his soul on ebay to a former evangelical minister, Jim Henderson, for $504.

One might think that Jim Henderson, the buyer, purchased the soul of Hemant Mehta for the purpose of converting him to Christianity. Not so. Rather, he wanted Mr. Mehta to attend various church services with him, and to write articles about these visits for a website run by the former Reverend Henderson. In thearticles, Hemant Mehta was to give a non-believers view of each service, and rank whomever presented the message on a scale of 1-10.

As one might imagine, most of the articles are somewhat critical, although it seems that Mr. Mehta is trying to be fair in his criticisms.

Mr. Henderson's website has experienced a phenomal increase in the number of visitors since his "so-called" purchase of Mr. Mehta's soul, so, from a worldly point of view, the purchase has paid off quite handsomely.

The big question for me, however, remains this. How could a man, especially one who had been an evangelist for 25 years, possibly get the idea that any man's soul could be purchased by a fellow human being? Shame on Jim Henderson, who, more than most people should have known better, for stooping to take part in such a travesty.

According to the Bible, the cost of a man's soul was set by Almighty God a long time ago, and a mere $504 dollars doesn't even come close.

The cost of a man's soul is the blood of Jesus Christ; nothing less will do.
