On Monday I had my usual check-up with the Dr. Everything is going well and I have no serious complications with the chemo. But the best news was my CA125 number. The CA125 measures how much protein the tumors for ovarian cancer make. Normal is below 20. My number is now at 7!!! Before surgery it was 44, then at the first chemo it was 24 and now 7. So, that is terrific news that the numbers are going down. It indicates that the chemo is working and the cancer that is left is responding to the chemo. My cancer isn't very good at making protein, so we know not to rely heavily on the numbers, but we are looking for good signs that the treatment is effective.
This Monday I go in to for chemo #3. Then I will soon be half way done. I have tried to get my Christmas shopping done so that I won't have to worry about it the next two weeks. I have made quite a few cookies, but the big elves around here have been eating them already. Christmas cookies just seem to taste extra special. We are getting a new living room window installed soon, so we haven't put up the tree yet. Maybe we'll have to get one for the family room instead this year. Christmas is such a great time of year. This year we have been forced to scale back and focus on just what's most important- cookies and presents (just kidding). We'll be spending time with family, extended family and friends. Even if I don't feel well, it will be good to just be together and cherish the time we have.
