We had a sad day yesterday. My son had a toad named Hoppy, and Hoppy died yesterday. This was Hoppy number 2, and I am probably more upset about it than my son. He's already hit me up for another pet, but I am not ready for another yet.
Our two Hoppy's were both wild toads, and though I don't know what kind they were, they were both tiny. When I think of toads or frogs, I think of something about the size of my palm, but both of these were about the size of the first knuckle of my thumb. Hoppy #1 was wild and animated, and Hoppy #2 was sedate, and preferred to spend time in his water dish.
I think if we ever do get another we may have a firebelly toad, because they are pretty cute. I don't see that happening for a long time. I have to say though, of all the pets I've ever had, these toads were the easiest to care for. Some crickets, some water, a little "toad house" that we picked up, they were completely happy.
Bye Hoppy. We miss you already.
