I know we all have plenty of things to be concerned about and why just add our food to the list. But really there are plenty of fun and cheap things you can do to ensure the safety and quality of your food supply.

One thing that helps with the cost of organic and range-free foods is the local farmers market or your local organic farm. I think even if the produce is not organic if purchased by a local small establishment farmer such as those found at local farmer markets your food is fresher and definately not sprayed with chemicals or preservitives for shipping purposes.

The farther away the product is from say South America or Japan the more chemicals it takes to keep these items fresh for shipping and shelf.

If you are lucky to have an organic farm in your area all the better, that is a good resource for lots of fresh and chemical free food. Often you can get to know your local farmers and dairies and buy direct from them as well for milk, eggs, poultry, and beef. If you are from the Austin, TX area a great resource is the Boggy Creek Farm, check them out for great food.

It is not hard to check your area out for these farms, just google your town or area of the state and organic farms and you will see what is out there.

Get the whole family involved, my family went and hand picked strawberries when they were in season. It was fun and gave us a greater sense of appreciation for our food.
