Bush Nominates Wiretap Expert To Head CIA (by BigBadJohnny)

General Hayden

US President George W Bush has nominated Air Force General Michael Hayden as the new head of the CIA.

As we know, George walker Bush has the curious habit of nominating persons to fill vacancies that are unfit for those positions to the extent of ridiculousness.

Helen Dewar, of the Washington post writes:

Friday, July 23, 2004; Page A05
"Senate Democrats blocked three more Bush nominees for federal appeals courts yesterday as Republicans and Democrats accused each other of trampling Senate rules, tradition and comity to advance their political agendas. "

So it would appear he has done it again.
Case in point, Bush's nomination of Air Force General Michael Hayden as the new head of the CIA.
Lawmakers have expressed concern at putting a military man in charge of a civilian agency, and civil rights groups are also raising objections
General Hayden is the former head of the National Security Agency (NSA). The American Civil Liberties Union has urged the Senate to question Gen Hayden vigorously about the NSA's program of domestic surveillance without warrants when he was in charge. "Hayden's approval of warrantless surveillance on Americans raises serious questions about whether the CIA would be further unleashed on the American public," ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said in a statement. He called on the Senate to use the Hayden confirmation hearing to investigate other allegations against the US intelligence community, including the reported use of secret prisons and extraordinary rendition of terror suspects.

I can't help but be amazed at the current U S presidents ongoing abuse of power, and his capacity to ignore public sentiment.
