Bryan Adams "Straight From The Heart"

Bryan Adams was still a relative unknown as a solo artist when he released his third solo album, Cuts Like A Knife, in the spring of 1983. However, the Canadian singer had carved out some success as a songwriter, helping pen songs for Loverboy, Kiss, and fellow Canadians Prism, who took his song "Don't Let Him Know" into the US Top 40 in early 1982 where it peaked at #39.

Cuts Like A Knife changed all of that, though, significantly raising Adams' profile when its first single, "Straight From The Heart," was issued in March of 1983. The simple, piano-driven ballad put Adams' rough-hewn voice to good use and earned him not only his first solo Top 40 hit but his first Top Ten.

"Straight From The Heart" peaked at #10 for a pair of weeks in June and held widespread appeal as it also made the album rock and adult contemporary charts. The single's success launched Cuts Like A Knife into the Top Ten on the album charts, the first of three hits from the record, and led the way to Adams' becoming one of the most dominant chart presences throughout the '80s.

I wore a hole in this record.

And, yes, I'm old enough to have owned it on a 45.

Today, it hurts to listen to it, because it's soooo "cheesy" but back then. . .

Now I feel old when I realize that there are kids that might not even know what one is :-)
