browsers
There seems to be a browser war going on. there are a variety of browsers on the internet for windows operating system. the best part is that all these are free and offer a host of features that internet explorer does not offer. Although internet explorer seems to be evolving as it keeps adding new features with each new version, but the interface seems to be fairly dull and monotonous.
The new browsers on the block are "safari' from apple and the new and updated Mozilla firefox with a variety of interesting plugins. But lets start with safari. this browser has been recently launched for the windows operating system. for a long time it was in beta stage ,but now it is available in the final version. It is a hefty 18mb download, but the slick interface and excellent features make it worthy of all the trouble. even browser icon is interesting. It is a translucent compass and not a dull alphabet. its best feature is the quick downloading. It can download a page with a number of graphics and photos in a few seconds even with a slow connection. I tried the same with explorer and it gave me pixellated photos on a 115 kbps connection. Anothe plus is the attractive interface. progress of downloading is seen on the address bar which seems to be filling up with a blue fluid as a page downloads. In addition to all this it offers the convenience of tabbed browsing and smooth menu movements. It also has a private browsing feature which does not save the website addresses visited. A very convenient feature when browsing from a cybercafe or the office. All in All a wonderful package. Only thing it lacks is plug-ins.
Firefox draws its speed from a simple design and an interface quite similar to explorer. Somehow one feels that its predecessor Netscape navigator had a better interface. however firefox offers a number of interesting add-ons and skins. One of the most interesting add-ons is called Pic lens which converts any photography website into a gallery with reflective floors. seeing each photo is like viewing a gallery. In addition to above firefox offers regular updates. By default it offers Google as a search engine. As soon as the browser is fired up it opens on the google page. browsing is also a breeze. the download progress bar is unobtrusively placed in the lower right hand corner. A good browser but still being developed.
