Broadway Show- RENT

Last night I took my daughter and one of her friends for an evening on the town and saw the Broadway show RENT. We had such a terrific time and will remember it forever. The music in the show is awesome with great lyrics and tight harmony.

The main theme of the show is love in all circumstances. A group of aspiring artists have no money and live in a warehouse apartment. The lot next door is a tent city of homeless people. Together they become friends, lovers, and sometimes, enemies. The owner of the apartment is trying to evict them and get rid of the homeless people as well. All through the show, Mark, is filming a documentary on people in real life. The characters include lesbians, homosexuals, AIDS patients, drug addicts, and prostitutes. Another theme that comes through is that it's not money that makes life worth living, but love.

My favorite song of this rock opera is "Seasons of Love." 525,600 minutes is the number of minutes in a year. How will you count them? In daylight, in sunsets, in cups of coffee? How about love?

The show is out in video, so if you have a chance, you might like to rent it. It's not appropriate for young children, but older ones (high schoolers) will enjoy the music, and grasp the lessons of life.
