Britney's Sister,... Sigh,...

celebrity pregnancy | child pregnancy

Man, I hate when these things happen. I remember last year writing on the other blog that I hoped Britney Spears sister was watching what her sister was doing and avoided some of the lifestyle her sister seemed to be exploiting. And it looked good for a long while, as she has a nice career on Nickelodeon and has won some awards for her acting and performing.

So, imagine my shock and disappointment at hearing that she's pregnant at 16; sigh. Of course this one is going to seem much worse than anything Britney has done because of her age, and I'm betting the mother, who now seems to have had no real control over either of her daughters, is going to take some heat for something that, in essence, was pretty much out of her hands.

I'm not going to beat up on a 16 year old who's gotten pregnant, but I just have to ask this question; what is it that kids are missing in today's world that they keep getting pregnant? I mean, the education is there, schools are giving out free condoms, some schools are even providing the pill to students who ask for it. They all know other young women who have had children and know how tough those lives can be, though, in Jamie Lynn's case, at least she has the money, and the rich boyfriend (still haven't heard how young he is) to never have to worry about working again, but still,...

Once again, something that's made me happy that I don't have kids.

makes you wonder about the mom

and her parenting to begin with. I think Brittany was a little screwed up before she even became really famous. What kind of parenting is she actually providing. Then again, you can teach your kids until your blue in the face, and they are ultimately going to make their own choices. I have seen that here in my little town. It's like nothing penetrates those skulls of theirs.

I've heard, Ammorton,...

that children's brains don't stop developing until the age of 18 or 19; I might have even read that here on BP. Still, I'm thinking that people can train animals, so why not kids?

Meanwhile, I was talking to one of my friends tonight about it, asking her if she was going to talk to her daughter about it. She hadn't realized that Jamie Lynn had a TV show on Nickelodeon for a few years, and her daughter watches it. So, after learning that, she realized she had to figure out something to say. That's one I'm glad I don't have to deal with.

Mental maturity is still occuring up to age 25 years...

in some cases - thats why some young men are still speeding around in their souped up cars right up to and past that age.Kiwi Riverman

unguided children.

thanks, we do not have such a problem in my country yet, thanks again to our somewhat conservative philosophy of sex.

So you're saying, Shaila,...

that there's never been an underaged, non-married woman in your country, ever?

yes there are

yes there must be , but rare and unaccepted.

Shaila, rare and unaccepted,...

not sure what that means, but I assume it doesn't mean whipped or exterminated; at least I hope not. Do they kick these young women out of the country, or what? Just trying to get my mind behind it.

getting whipped or thrown out of country? no but is it not sufficient enough if your friends or relatives discard you?
but that is something else.
my point is a woman should not become mother if she cannot get on with the responsibilities that a child brings.

On that one,...

I would agree. However, America has been through the part where women would do almost anything to get rid of an unborn baby, or where parents would send their children away so that they didn't bring shame onto the family. No one likes it because it puts undue pressure on families, but to ostracize the kids because they made a mistake,... well, that's something else entirely. For the most part, we've moved beyond that.

not happy

could not understand what do you wish to say.
anyway the question arises in spite of formal sex education in America and only a formal touch of this subject in India well after 15- 16 years, why teens should engage themselves in this blunder, not unless the parents are not monitoring.

Ya know, I think that

Ya know, I think that Jamie-Lynn is being made to pay for Britney and her mom's excesses, in a lot of ways. Think about it. That girl from "Whale Rider", Keisha Castle-Hughes, was pregnant at the same age. She didn't take nearly the crap that Jamie-Lynn is taking. The whole discussion of it was kept in its proper place. That is, whether a 16 year old has any business having a baby. Nobody wrote off her entire family and said that the whole lot of them are useless.

But, to completely negate that, let me point something out. At 16 she's a minor. Minor's can't sign contracts, and I guaran-damn-tee you that there are contracts signed before interviews. So whose idea was this whole magazine article where she discussed her pregnancy???

Sure, she screwed up. If she is smart, she'll use this opportunity to disappear. But it doesn't seem like it's going to go that way. :S

I had no idea, IG,...

that there was an interview to begin with until I was walking through the store this evening. I'm just stunned; I mean, what could she possibly say? I heard, also, that they've canceled the book the mother was supposed to have coming out on Mother's Day; so much for her making her own money, eh?

And I'd have to agree with you on the connection to Britney, but only to a degree. I think, based on the fact that she does have this show on Nickelodeon, that she'd have taken a lot more heat than the young lady from that movie, because in America, TV people drive passion more because they're seen more often.
