Brett Favre

I woke up this morning and did what I do every morning. I took a shower and then I turned on the ESPN Sportscenter in the living room so I could listen to it while I got dressed in my room. That's when it happened, they led the show with Super Bown XL coverage but they were talking to Brett Favre.
Turns out Brett Favre is leaning toward retirement. This is not the first news a die harg Green Bay Packer fan such as myself wants to hear in the morning. I was now forced to think about the next football season and what it would be like to know Brett Favre might not be playing.
This year Favre had probably his worst year in his career. He led the league in interceptions and the Packers won only four games. Even with those numbers I would still want Favre under center for the Packers next year. Especially if the Packers get back all the players they lost to injury this year.
With the right weapons around him, Brett Favre is still one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL. I would argue the reason he threw so many interceptions this year was because his number one receiver, his top three running backs, and half his offensive line missed significant time due to injury. Favre knew that he was the only weapon the Pack had and he tried to make plays all by his lonesome.
I guess what I'm trying to say that on any given Sunday, Brett Favre is still one of the most exciting players to step on the football field. After fifteen years in the league he still has a cannon for an arm, he's by far the toughest player to ever play the game. Over 250 consecutive games started at the quarterback position is a record that will never be broken. He's only four touchdown passes away from being the second guy with 400 career TD passes (i think). The man won three consecutive MVP awards. Let me repeat that, he won three consecutive MvP awards. The only person to ever accomplish that.
I realize that Favre is getting old and that the Packers have first round draft pick Aaron Rodgers waiting in the wings. Sure the kid needs to get some play so he can mature into a number one QB when Brett leaves. That's the thing though, Favre has earned the right to decide when and how he wants to leave the game. I think the Packers organization agrees with that or at least I hope they do. Favre didn't say the organization was pushing him one way or the other. The organization should be pushing him to come back if not to only give him the proper send off he deserves. Let him walk off the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in his pads, to thousands of screaming cheeseheads showing their gratitude for everything Brett Favre has done for the Green Bay Packers and the NFL.
