A second round of toxicology tests have revealed a new drug suspect in Daniel Smith's death. Daniel Smith, son of former supermodel and Playboy Playmate, Anna Nicole Smith, was found dead in her Bahaman hospital room a few weeks back.
New reports indicate the death may have been due to a lethal combination of antidepressants and methadone. The results were released by Anna Nicole's pathologist, Cyril Wecht.
The doctor states there is no way to tell which drug was the specific killer; "It's a cumulative effect," he said.
Some have said that Daniel Smith was being treated for back pain, which may have resulted in his being prescribed methadone as a painkiller. While most commonly associated with weaning users off of heroin, it has been increasingly used as a painkiller in recent years.
The intital tox screen came back negative for illegal drugs, but positive for sleeping medications. According to Wecht, this one came back negative for Ambien, but positive for methadone.
