Boondocks and Dr. King

Cartoons | Computer/Windows/XP | Martin Luther KIng | social commentary | television

I hate airing dirty laundry in public, but let's face the fact that black America hasn't stepped up to the plate as much as I wish they had. There were many people who gave their lives for us to be able to enjoy certain rights, and we certainly haven't taken those rights across the board and become great. As a matter of fact, in many ways we've taken major steps backwards.

I will continue to point out acts of racism when I see it, and intolerance, and keep on trying to promote diversity. But tonight, I'm going to do something a little bit different.

There was a cartoon called The Boondocks which was on the Cartoon Network for about a minute. They had one episode where, instead of being assassinated, Dr. King was actually in a long coma, and comes out of it and has to deal with life in today's world. Then, finally, he basically lost his mind and decided to tell the folks just how he saw it.

This clip, if it works correctly, is that piece of the cartoon. I'll be darned if it doesn't tell it like it is,... sigh. :-(

And, by the way, if someone can tell me how you embed the clips into a page, I'd really be appreciative.

Catfish, Bill Cosby has been doing this very same thing.

In fact, he did a series of appearances across the US on just this subject. I'm sure you are more familiar with it than I am.

While I firmly believe that racism is a real and serious issue in this country, I also believe that it is the responsibility of every human being to raise himself up - not wait for someone else to do it for him.

BTW, I have no idea how to imbed a clip - wish I did. Maybe you should PM Manodogs - I bet he'd know.

the same thing is evident here in the UK though not on such a scale. We spend half our time trying to teach our grandkids to be responsible for themselves - I detest racism, but I will not allow my family to bow before it and be brought down. My daughter's boys will know how to stand tall I hope.
