Last night, I was looking over my blog tags at My Life as a Mother and Single Parent. I realized that I had way to many. They were stretching down half the page. I choose to display my blog tags for readers to find specific posts. I knew I was going to have to clean it up. It was a job I was not looking forward to.
When I first started blogging, I really didn't realize the importance of blog tags. To be honest, I wasn't even sure what they were for. During my early days, I would add as many tags as possible. Now I realize that they are very specific keywords to help readers locate posts they are interested in.
I've visited some blogs that are very complicated, and quite frankly hard to understand. I prefer to visit a blog that has a smaller sized list. It makes it so much easier on my eyes.
Last night, I ended up going through all of my old posts at Blogger and redid my tags. I am pleased with the results. For some posts, I only used one tag and for others two or three. The end result? A smaller sized tag list displayed on my sidebar. No longer will my readers feel overwhelmed by the size of my large list. They will be able to scan through and select a tag that interests them.
The moral of this story? Sometimes, bigger isn't better:-)
