The Worst way to Spend a Sunday Night

hail | tornado | weather

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Estrogen weirdness to give this important announcement:

Don't spend Sunday nights in your bathtub with a mattress over your head!!

I'm totally serious. We moved from the frozen tundra about 10 yrs ago and live in Missouri now. If you've been watching the news, you know our whole area was effected by severe weather and tornados last night and Saturday. This has been such a weird year and I'm not looking forward to whatever Mother Nature has in store for the rest of this spring.

Learning new Blogging Skills

blog | learn | skills

After blogging here and on writingup for almost 2 months, I've decided to venture out on my own and see what I can accomplish. Last weekend, I started a fun, family-friendly blog on blogcharm. This site is very user-friendly for the html dyslexic among us(me). I've learned how to copy and paste code into the template and can add images with the click of a button. I love it!! The best part about venturing out on your own? I don't share ad revenue with anyone!!

The Estrogen "Get Real" File: Gourmet Dog Treats

dog | Food | Recipes

My Australian Cattle Dog, Buster, absolutely loves dog treats. He doesn't care if they're Jerky Treats, Milkbones, or the newest gourmet-style treats. We also make him treats at home. He gobbles them up like there's no tomorrow. It got me thinking, however, about what dogs really like. Do they really care whether they're eating treats with no preservatives or byproducts? Heck no!! Do they jump on every health bandwagon they find? Not a chance! These dog bakeries are designed to impress the parents, not the dog! I can guarantee your dog could care less!

The Estrogen Kitchen: Daddy Chicken

chicken | Funny | Recipes

Barbeque season has arrived! (at least in my neck of the woods). My mouth's been watering, and my husband has a strange gleam in his eye. It must be time!! I'd like to share one of our favorite chicken recipes with my loyal readers. It's an ancient Estrogen secret formula (not really) combining the sweet taste of barbeque sauce, the aroma of the charcoal mixed with wood, and the zip of an amazing jerk rub. Getting hungry? I am. So here we go.

Spiritual Abuse

christianity | Religion

It seems the hot topic on here lately concerns religion and differing views on the subject. I felt it was finally time to fill you in on my story and introduce a new term--spiritual abuse. Many of you already know that I do believe in Christ and, despite my faults, try to follow his teaching on a daily basis. It hasn't always been this way.

Parents: Those who Never Graduated from Junior High School

What's the problem with parents these days? Forming cliques, backstabbing other parents, attempting to kill cheerleaders--I could go on for hours. You know the parents I'm talking about--they walk around your child's school with their nose in the air, wrestle their way into popularity with those they consider worthy, and spend most of their time spreading rumors about other families. These parents, in my opinion, have serious psychological problems and the entire issue can be described with one phrase--the illusion of money.

Top Ten Ways to Annoy your Brothers and Sisters

I was having a hard time deciding what to write tonight so I was playing games on Gamesville. My daughter told me to "do my homework and get writing"(we'd been working on a report for her history class about Rosa Parks). So I told her that I couldn't think of anything to write tonight. She gave me a great idea--to write about the Top Ten Ways to Annoy your Brothers and Sisters. So I dedicate my blog this evening to my nine-year-old who basically told me everything to write and in what order.

Disaster Movies: Discussion group Part 3

Are you a disaster movie fanatic? I am. Our discussion group for the last few days has centered on different weather-related phenomena such as Hurricanes and Global Warming and Weather Control. This got me thinking about my favorite disaster movies of all time. For our discussion today, I'd like to discuss our favorite natural disaster movies. Do you have a favorite or two? Here's a list of some of my favorites:

Hurricanes and Global Warming: Quality Discussion Part 2

Let the Discussions begin!!

Second Challenge: In the last few years the United States has seen an increase in the number of hurricanes. Some in the scientific community declare the recent increase is a direct result of global warming. Hurricane's form over warm tropical waters and supporters contend that rising global temperatures will 1)increase the number of hurricanes and 2)increase the intensity of the hurricanes that form. But many disagree. We simply do not have enough scientific data to support this thesis. Here's why: Hurricanes, it is believed, appear to go through natural cycles of increased activity. Previous active decades include: 1920's-1930's and 1950's to 1960's. We do not have enough accurate data for time periods preceding the 21st century to make a truly educated finding.

Brett Favre: Discussion Game Part One

Blogging at BloggerParty has become one of my favorite activities during my free time. I enjoy reading others' blogs and getting involved in a discussion or two. But too many blogs focus on hate speech from all sides and today I'm posting a new challenge for everyone to consider. Everyday (if time permits) I'm going to post a new dilemma or issue--some fun, some serious. I'm not giving my personal opinions in any way but will try and form an opinion on one side of the issue--let the debating begin! I know we have many bloggers here that are mature, adult individuals who can converse and disagree in an appropriate manner. Here are the rules:

***I'll have to learn the correct pronunciation of some other, less exciting QB's name

***I'll be the laughing stock amongst all of my stupid, non-educated Viking friends!!

Christianophobia Explained--by Popular Demand

I've decided to start a new blog entry to explain my christianophobics entry that's created so much press. Some of the comments show a clear lack of understanding about the piece and I feel the need to expound further. The blog actually describes the absurdity of both terms: Christianophobia and homophobia. Now before you jump down my throat--hear me out.

Christianophobia is a new term being investigated by the United Nations to describe persons who persecute and discriminate Christians around the world. They've also included the term Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism and a host of other "phobias" unique to each religious or human category. And yes, homophobia is one of them. You'll be surprised to know that many Christian organizations in the United States do not agree with the use of the term Christianophobia. They feel it redundant to classify each religion separately. And I agree.

Michelle Kwan: The Last Hurrah?

Michelle Kwan has announced her withdrawal from the Torino Olympics. She states that a recurring groin injury will keep her from competing in what just may be her last Olympics. I feel really bad for Kwan. In the past, I would actually cheer for her competitors because I thought she was a snob. But I can't imagine what it must feel like to work your entire life towards a goal and never be able to attain it. She has won every other Figure Skating competition at least a few times and has received only a bronze and a silver in the Olympics.

Not that that's a bad thing. Maybe it's time for Michelle to give it up and move on with her life. I think about my favorite line from the movie Cool Runnings: "If you aren't enough without it, you'll never be enough with it."
