There’s Nothing To Blog About!

Ya, ya, ya, I’m sure everyone thinks that must be a bait & switch kind of post title. Surely, I can’t be serious! What with all the history being made and all. But, there really isn’t! There are plenty of headlines and all that ~ sure. But, is there really anything that can’t be summed up in less than a paragraph??

I dropped my baby girl off for her 1st day of Kindergarten about 15 minutes ago and I’m almost nearly recovered. I mean, I didn’t fall apart like I did when my youngest son, Albert, had his big day ~ but, in my defense, the boy started it!

WASTING AWAY AGAIN IN MANISCHEWITZ-VILLE

Well, the last few weeks have been interesting, to say the least. I’ve worked only sporadically while searching for a preminent, full time job. I’ve done so much walking - literally pounding the pavement with my soon to be blow-out tennis shoes - that I’ve become a light skinned Black person. I’d find it really cool if it weren’t for the ridiculous tan line that reveals my true, nearly white skin tone. That and the nagging fear of skin cancer since I’m too daft to remember the sun block most of the time until I’m out and the bottle is back in the dingy flat laughing at me. But, last week I did work and it was actually kind of fun.

Dear God I’m Depressed!

The day didn’t begin this way. After getting some writing done I set out for Burger King to use the net. On Myspace was a message from a friend in Big Spring. She and I have kept in contact off and on, but today is the day she decided to fill me in on mutual friends like I’ve asked her to do a million times before. *Note to self: NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!*

The Gays Of Summer

It’s finally happened ~ same sex marriages are now legal in California! I’d be seriously disgusted that it took this bloody long to become legal here, but I’ve decided to just be happy about it. And, I’m also pleased that I haven’t seen as much on the outrage front as one would expect. Everyone just seems happy. I’m not saying it’s not being apposed, but even at the fist marriage ceremony yesterday, the protesters remained quite.

I was all set to post something else when I arrived here today. But, instead, I discovered a PM in my box that contained the photo below. Mucho thanks goes out to Texzee for taking the time to send it! My camera phone being, um, crap ~ I have been unable to add a visual to my post about the Fango Convention and the too cool for words moment my daughter had with the love of her life, Alex O'Loughlin (aka Mick from Moonlight). But, thanks to Texzee, ya'll can now see for yourselves what a cool and HOT guy he is when up close & personal!

The Dark Side Of The Rainbow

So, I’ve reported recently that things are going swimmingly and they really are. I’m a bit disheartened that we’re not in a shiny new apartment yet and that money became low before the shiny new job. But, things are still good. I’m getting the kid enrolled in kindergarten, in with a group called The Regional Center to help with her Autism and enjoying trips to the park and library. And, despite the occasional nuisance created by ‘CSI’ insisting on filming (apparently!) every one of their episodes on my block this season, it’s still kinda cool!

Taking Hollywood By Storm!........er, or at least Downtown adjacent

Well folks, yours truly and the Princess of Darkness arrived at the Los Angeles Greyhound terminal at 6:10am Wens morning (April 23rd) and are happily getting settled in! The ride out was seriously uneventful and not even as uncomfortable as the bus usually is. There were no crazies, no loud assholes or even anyone with their seat in my lap. Donnella fell asleep within 15 minutes of our 11:00pm departure and slept until we got here. I think somewhere out there that means a world record was broken.

Skin Care For The Poor

I’m writing about this for all who may want to try my little concoction for reducing pores and improving the look of your skin. I did a lot of searches online before leaving Sacramento and discovered that a lot of homemade facial scrubs involved trips to specialty stores, which in my opinion, kinda defeats the purpose. Hey, I was looking for something I could whip up with the crap I already have! And, as my move date approached, I decided to take what I’d learned and make something up myself. This *may* already be out there somewhere, but I didn’t find it.

I HEART PORN

Ok, I’ll admit that I don’t own any smut films or even any toys ~ but that’s due entirely to my current situation and not to any prudish sensibility. Let’s face it, when I go out shopping these days, I have a 4 year old with me. So, perusing the Adults Only section is just not an option. It’s not like the sign says, “18 & over only unless accompanied by an adult”! And, given how my days are filled with choosing new doctors, finding new daycare, seeking employment and then trying to wedge some writing in at the end of the day ~ porn just doesn’t come to mind too often for this spinster. But, today it’s kind of all I’m thinking about thanks to an article written by Mick Farren in LA’s City Beat.

Fangoria’s Weekend of Horror ~ Aka: Alex O’Loughlin has won my heart!

Well, this may very well go up instead of my initial “Hey, we made it to Los Angeles” post, but who cares! I’ve just had such a wonderful day that I had to write all about it right now.

For those unlucky souls who’ve never heard of it, each year (in two locations generally) Fangoria Magazine puts on it’s ‘Weekend of Horrors’ convention for all of us horror fans. I attended my first con at the ripe ol’ age of 18 and had only been able to attend one other since. But, as I was flipping through the local arts paper, I saw the con listed for this weekend and chose my day. It was tough to choose only one out of the three days, but when I saw that not only was George A. Romero attending Sunday, but that it would be a 40th year reunion for the entire cast of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ ~ well, I’m sure you can tell which day I chose!

In The Big Circle Jerk

Well, I’m here at week two ~ day 14 ~ without a single, solitary cigarette! I’m also using my last nicotine patch and don’t plan to buy anymore. My cravings are almost down to nil, so I’ll just stick with the gum until they pass completely. As it is, I’ve only been using the gum about twice a day, anyway. With the exception of the odd moment when my mind summons involuntary thoughts of smoking (like, the other night when I had trouble sleeping and I suddenly thought “Whatever, I’ll just have a smoke before trying again”) I’m really kinda over it. My only issue is the amount of EATING I’ve been doing over the last week, but that’s also passing. I’ve had a couple of days where I literally made myself sick from eating and that kind of discomfort helps to knock that crap off!

The Long Weekend And, Ya Know.....I Really Don’t Like You At All

I really can’t believe it’s still Saturday! Seriously. It feels like it should have been over at least a day ago! Last night, while we were all happily getting trashed, my brother’s girlfriend made the comment that it was “nearly Saturday”. I must admit that I was kinda confused ~ I thought we’d started the day as Saturday! And, then this morning I really was wondering why my brother was still home and not working his normal Sunday shift! Yikes! This weekend just won’t end!

After reading and commenting on laundrymom’s post today, I thought I’d focus on some good things going on in the world. I’m sure they won’t be as earth-shattering as Hillary’s tax return or that super-creepy guy that wanted a picture with Obama (really, Senator - that one needed to be on the receiving end of a stun gun!) but, good is good and we all could use some of it!

Well, for now - until I've quit smoking - The Sponge is my birth control device of choice. I'm actually not a fan of using it all the time. Call me old fashioned, but if the mood strikes while I'm bent over the kitchen sink - I'm damn sure not gonna want to stop in order to run off to the bathroom! "Hold on a sec, honey!
