CBS Broadcasting Inc. (CBS), the largest radio and television networks in the United States has struck a deal to buy CNET Networks for $1.8 billion in cash. This acquisition would include Web properties CNET, ZDNet, gaming site GameSpot, TV.com, music destination MP3.com, UrbanBaby and CNET news.com. CBS said it would combine those assets with its existing Internet properties, which would make the company one of the top 10 U.S. Web firms with 54 million unique users per month and approximately 200 million users worldwide

SportsCenter, which has been replaying the days shows twelve times a day will be re-launched with news, highlights and information program on the the opening week of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games starting August 11, Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-3 p.m. ET. The program is restructured now and new SportsCenter will be nine-hour block of live SportsCenters presented by three teams with two main show anchors, an update anchor, and production personnel split into three-hour shifts.

Dish Network Removes Remaining Five VOOM Channels

After launching 22 new high-definition channels, DISH Network removed 10 of the 15 VOOM high-definition channels few days back. Now the satcaster have removed the remaining five VOOM HD channels left from its programming. Dish CEO Charlie Ergen, while presenting the first quarter results admitted that the 10 VOOM high-definition channels have been removed after the launch of the 22 new HD channels and announced that the remaining five would also be removed and be replaced with other HD channels.
