What is scarier...

politics

George W. Bush, president of the United States, is usually portrayed in the media as a hopeless simpleton. But wait - suppose he's actually a criminal genius, the head of a vast conspiracy that has been planning and carrying out the events of the past decade or more - including 9/11? Suppose the idiot routine was just a front for a massively complicated, diabolical plan which will lead us who knows where?

It's true, I'm half Native American...

...which makes me entitled to certain rights and priveleges. The fact that my mom's an Apache - although frankly none of us have any connection with tribal rituals or any of that - makes me a Very Special Person. For example, I have the right to be offended by the Cleveland Indians baseball team (mascot).

A quick internet search reveals that the Indians are 17 and 21 currently. If I were a fan,

I've been reading Water Music...

books | literature | suffering

...by T. C. Boyle....a sort of comic historical novel that delights in pure outrageousness. It seems sort of sadistic in a way, because the author seems intent on putting his characters through the most extreme torment possible (and describing it in realistic detail). But then, suffering is always interesting, no?

It makes me wonder what people would write about if there were no problems in the world.

American Idolatry...

entertainment | Stupidity | television

I must confess I do not understand the continuing popularity of American Idol. The performances are excruciating, the judges are obnoxious, the whole thing is patently a sham.

What we really need is to give some underappreciated musical genres more exposure. Such as..."America's Next Top Stoner Rock Band". It would be so heavy it would melt Simon Cowell's face off. The majority of viewers would be offended by it, as they tuned in expecting to hear bland commercial crap.

Who needs freaks? We do!

Celebrities | Conan O'Brien | freaks

Just got done watching Late Night With Conan O'Brien. He did his usual slew of freak-celebrity jokes. You know, making fun of Tom Cruise and Michael Jackson and all those others who have passed outside the realm of normality.

But you know what - we *need* people like that. Because they personify the dark side of ourselves - the shadow side, as Carl Jung called it - the unpresentable side which we would rather not recognize, and would rather project onto other people. The more we laugh at these crazy loons, the better we feel about our own supposed "normality".

Skinny chicks are overrated

beauty | sex | Stupidity

Seriously. I am tired of going to the mall and walking by Victoria's Secret and seeing some photo of a bony-thin model who is supposedly the epitome of pulchritude. The media have been telling us for too long just what we're supposed to find attractive. I just want to make it clear to all of you plumpish women out there who aren't twigs: IT'S PERFECTLY ALL RIGHT! I LIKE YOU THAT WAY! DON'T WORRY A

What does it mean...

Dreams | music | weirdness

...when you have a dream in which you’re going to see Metallica in concert (which you’ve never actually done) and when you get there, the whole stadium or whatever is frozen over with ice and snow, and when Metallica take the stage (with Cliff Burton no less), they play hip-hop versions of what sound like Barry Manilow songs?

School is intended to promote mediocrity!

bitterness | education | school

Whatever high ideals it may or may not have been established with, public education is really just an extension of the vapid consumer economy which is our society. The world does not want thinkers, rebels, artists or philosophers. It wants corporate drudges who can endure the endless labor necessary to maintain an increasingly huge and ineffectual civilization. Kids now graduate high school with only the barest conception of history or how to write. They then expect to go out into the work world and earn big money with minimal thought. School is designed to pump out the kind of clones who do not possess enough independent thought capabilities to do anything other than work a dull job and watch TV.

I just listened to the darkest album ever...

Doom | metal | music | stoner rock

..."Black One" by Sunn 0))). This album, despite its association with doom metal, is not rock. Some might not even consider it music, but I do. It’s like the soundtrack to some grotesque, disturbing horror film. It’s so suffocatingly evil that I can only listen to it under certain conditions, such as while eating a bowl of Lucky Charms.

Recommended to all those who wish to experience grim,

books

Well, I'm here, your basic would-be writer and neurotic thinker. This is only my second attempt at a blog, but I'm certain that with a little practice I can blog with the best of 'em!

Tonight I believe I will try to put together the master plan for my novel, which I have been working on (in some form or other) for 12 years...
