Abortion | adoption | Desperate Housewives
I watched Sunday's episode of Desperate Housewives last night on the DVR and the ending nearly tore my heart out. If you haven't seen it yet, you may not want to read further!
As I watched Gaby break down when Lily's birthmom came back to claim her, I realized I made the best choice I could all those years ago. When I was 21, my husband (then boyfriend) and I discovered that even perfect Pill and condom use has a failure rate. We were in college, broke, and both still had a couple of years to finish.

parenting | potty training | preschool | toddler
Yes. I admit it. I'm ashamed, but it's true.
My 3.5 year old son isn't potty trained.
Everything I read and heard told me not to push him, that it only made things worse. So I didn't. And didn't. And didn't. And now I am expecting another baby in a couple of very short months and I'd *really* like to not have 2 in diapers since they're so far apart in age. Plus the one and only preschool we could find in this tiny town doesn't like kids who aren't potty trained. So I figured it was time to force the issue, gently.

death | family | Lung Cancer
My dad and I didn't get along very well. Some say it's because we were too much alike. I like to think that it's because we were so different, LOL. Once I got older and begin to think for myself and expose myself to more than his uber-conservative ways I simply became someone he couldn't understand.
Still, I loved him and I knew he loved me. He was hard on me and pushed me to succeed. He was older than most parents of kids my age and I think it made a difference in the way I was treated. I resented some of that and still do sometimes. But I believe he did his best with the knowledge he had.

family
It's been a while. Things have been crazy with the move and everything else. Pregnancy progressing nicely. I'm now 28 weeks and in the 3rd trimester! It seems to be going so fast.
I will come back later (today or tomorrow!) and post a brain dump of my "dad issues" because I found myself crying about it earlier. Just a quick summary -- we had problems as I was growing up but essentially he did his best to be a good dad.

I started out doing this blog at WritingUp. In reading other blogs there, I discovered Blogger Party and thought it was worth trying out. It was...I've increased traffic quite a bit.
So if you want to double up (all I do is copy and poaste my posts to each site) then it could work out to your advantage. If you try WritingUp, please consider using my referral link. :)

baby names | Racism
I wasn't aware that names had colors. Apparently they do!
When I was running down my list of potential names for this little boy to someone, I mentioned that Isaac was my top choice. I am not a particularly religious person, but the story of Abraham and Sarah in the Bible kind of resonated with me. I had chosen Isaac because I liked it, but when I looked up the story of Isaac in the Bible, I liked it even more!

Edwards pies | family problems | key lime pie | pie plate | Suicide
I'm pregnant, so I get cravings. Last weekend, it was for a key lime pie. My fabulous husband took my 3 year old to the store with him and brought one back for me. (Isn't he great? Though right now I'm dying for some KFC and he's refusing to go. Sometimes he's great, I guess!)

computer child pornography | controversy | message board | politics
Recently, a message board I post at frequently had a controversy surrounding a member's husband's conviction for child porn. He had been in jail for a little while, and was being released on parole. Because this is a board comprised of mostly women, there is a lot of posting of children's pictures and such. This presented a problem, obviously. Since he was moving back in with her and their 2 children (which is another debate entirely!) he was going to have full access to even the "private" forums where people generally felt more comfortable sharing pictures, myself included.

customer service | dryer | Funny | Kenmore | Sears
Following are the *many* posts I made regarding the Sears Saga after we bought a new dryer from them that didn't work. It was a fiasco of gigantic proportions.
---Mon, 01-23-2006 15:29---
I am very frustrated. Thursday night, our dryer died. My husband thinks the element burned out. We look up the price of the part -- it's over $100. We decide that a new dryer is probably more cost effective than repairing the 6+ year old one that he only paid $200 for in the first place.

kidney stones
Just a little note...this was originally posted at writingup and I've since passed 2 more on my own and I'm currently working on yet another. No narcotics, nothing but lots of fluid!
So I think I've got another kidney stone. The last one was in October, right after I found out I was knocked up. Had 2 ER trips and spent 2 days in the hospital with that one. Before that, it was July. The previous May, I'd had lithotripsy for a giant one. Prior to all of those, I'd had multiple instances of mysterious pain that would suddenly disappear after a lot of frequent urination, typically with some blood in my urine.

So in case you haven't heard about Blingo, I'm inviting you to check it out. It's a website that you can search on, just like Yahoo!, Google, or a million out there. In fact, it's powered by Google, so if you like google, it's worth a try.

Recipes
Get yourself a bag of frozen shrimp (our local grocery store runs the 1lb bags at B1G1 fairly often...it's a great deal!), some frozen mini corn on the cob, a smoked sausage (no, that's not a euphemism!), and some red new potatoes.

I was reading another blog site and Blogger Party was mentioned as an alternative. I figure it doesn't take much for me to copy and paste my blog entries from one place to another, so now I'm here, too.
