The Tartar connundrum.
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 12, 2006 - 7:43pmI'm not a dentist and I don't usually wear white. Well, I have some white shirts, but I would never wear them with a white jacket and one of those blue yacht captain hats with the plastic badge. Actually I always seem to be wearing a white shirt when I am eating pasta and I always seem to have the dexterity of coma patient when that happens. Come to think of it, I really knew very little about not spilling food on my shirt OR my looking after teeth before I embarked on this project.

Getting a job as a crew member on a luxury mega-yacht.
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 10, 2006 - 11:31pmLarry Ellison, Paul Allen and Tiger Woods all have them.
I'm talking about mega-yachts - privately owned floating palaces. In case you aren't already aware, a mega-yacht is any motor or sail powered yacht over 24m in length. They have award winning interiors, the very best navigation equipment available and a permanent compliment of crew who live on board and travel with the yacht where ever it goes.
And the jobs are open to anyone.
The crews are comprised mostly of Australians, Kiwis, South Africans, Canadians, Europeans, South Americans and the odd US citizen. The industry is dominated by hard working travelers, eager for tax free US dollars and the lifestyle.
The lifestyle of being a 'yachtie' and chasing the sun is very hard to beat. Being surrounded by opulence is a lot of fun, not to mention berthing downtown at some of the finest cities in the world.
Most of the work is spent keeping the yacht looking pristine and when the guests are aboard, long hours ensue, but here are some of the benefits:
* Great tax free salary
* All expenses paid including free food, wine, beer
* At least one paid trip home each year
* Travel to some of the best places on earth
* Meeting VIPs, Captains of industry and celebrity types
* Use of the tenders and jet skis
Most of the yachts will move between the US, the Med and the Caribbean, but 99% of them are registered in offshore tax havens such as the Cayman Islands. This allows people of all nationalities to work on yachts located in the US or anywhere else in the world for that matter. The yachts themselves tend to travel together and frequent the best parts of the world at the best times to be there.
The real work only exists when the owners and guests are on board and then it is all about service. The yachts are used exclusively by the owner or chartered out. The number of guests will vary, but it is not uncommon for the owners and several guests to be on board at the same time.
Below are some brief descriptions of jobs available on mega-yachts:
Captain - responsible for the running of the yacht and yearly running budget
Mate - link between captain and crew members from all departments
Bosun - responsible for deck staff
Deckhand - responsible for upkeep of yacht.
Engineer - reports directly to the Captain. Responsible for the myriad systems on board the yacht

An introduction to Golf for the Adult beginner.
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 9, 2006 - 3:08amEvery day more and more people are taking it up for the first time. I was once a beginning golfer myself and I remember the frustrations of learning the swing and playing well. And that was with a Golf Pro Father.
There are a lot of books and other information products available for established golfers, but not a lot for adults who are brand new to the game. Amongst all the tour talk, long drives and 400cc drivers, it seems beginners are left out.

Ways to make big $$$ in Japan.
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 3:27pmAs you're probably already aware, Japan is a very unique place. No where else in the world will you find the same outrageous opportunities to make money that are open to just about anyone.
English Teaching.
The most common job for new foreigners is teaching English. Despite the thousands of English schools and 12 years of study at school, the English level in Japan remains at lower intermediate, ensuring strong demand for teachers. Every type of class and situation exists from Elementary schools right through to Flight Attendant Colleges. It can also be a great way into a previously non-existent position. I know of one teacher at a top Advertising agency who later became an English copywriter. He had no experience whatsoever in copywriting, they just liked him and enjoyed his lessons.

Is there an ebook in you?
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 3:23pmFor anyone thinking about writing an ebook, the first step requires sitting down to determine your interests and passion. You should already have a niche market in mind before you start and your ebook has to offer much more than an offline book. Part of that relates to creating a community aspect and you can also use links to other sites, audio, video and bonuses to add value to your ebook.
The first ebook I ever purchased was by Anthony Ellis and it was about weight training. There was the actual pdf manual, but beyond that, he had a members area and a real sense of community, which was something I wanted to emulate.

Stand up comedian or bubble blower?
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 3:20pmI got an email from a friend of mine here not so long ago. He is late 20s - a few years younger than me - and in this email, he told me how he had taught himself to swim.
He explained in great detail the embarrassment of holding on to the edge of the pool blowing bubbles, practising the breathing technique before graduating to a kick board and doing laps up and down the pool.
With continued effort, he managed to teach himself to complete a lap of freestyle and now here he is - 5 months later - swimming 1 mile each day. He isn't going to be trialling for the Olympic team anytime soon, but he has become proficient at it after a relatively short while.

The Absolute Basics of SEO
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 3:16pmSearch engine optimization is the process of maximizing the ranking of you site in search engine listings. The most important factors to consider to achieve a high ranking are: the keywords you use, your title, your description, the text of your site, and the links others provide to your site.
To begin selecting keywords, consider what words and phrases the people you are trying to reach will be searching on. When placing keywords in your keyword tag, it is best to use phases rather than single words. Almost all single words are in very widespread use, thus will not tend to produce high rankings. Keyword phrases can be better tailored to your business. Also, since phrase searches produce fewer results, people are more likely to search on them. It is also a good idea to produce a list of keyword phrases for every page of your site. If you must include difficult to spell words, it is a good idea to include some common misspellings of these words as well.

Three steps to your own Import Export Business
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 2:54pmIn this article I'd like to talk about the first three steps I believe are vital in starting up your own import-export business.
The first and most important step is to determine your interests.
It goes without saying that the most successful businesses are those where it ceases to be considered work for the owner. We've all heard stories of people who started out very small and grew their business into million dollar enterprises. It wasn't just luck or coincidence. They were involved with something they truly enjoyed doing and worked hard at it.

Getting Your Reality TV Show Idea in Front of the People Who Make Them
Submitted by marinerbluedotcom on March 7, 2006 - 2:40pmMore, more, more for less, less, less is what the networks are saying about reality television because the popularity has staying power that is here forever.
There will always be a new reality show coming out, with new ideas coming from every aspect of life and there are even television stations dedicated to reality TV 24 hours a day.
But how long can this golden run go on? The short answer is indefinitely, as there is something of a stand off in place. The viewers ask that question, and the producers also ask that question, and both sides continue to watch and create the programs.
Who will crack first? When will they crack? With the huge success of many shows, it is not going to be anytime soon. But what about this huge success?
In terms of the individual success of one show, it will have little to do with the overall popularity of the genre. The run away success of The Simpsons didn't stop others producing animation, just as the wild success of one Reality show won't stop others from being made.
The big attraction to Reality TV is the audience involvement. They are watching real people and invest in them emotionally. Anyone who invests their time emotionally, isn't going to just walk away, so they stay and keep watching to see the eventual outcome. And we already know there are no limits to the behaviour and emotions of human beings.
For this reason, I feel the next wave will be even wilder that the what we are seeing now. It's going to get kind of weird folks, which in turn makes for great television. Sorry to all my buddies in Hollywood that act or are so called real writers.
In my opinion reality TV show writers are just that; "writers" but they are also creators as well which is an interesting duality that is really unique to them. Everyone has got an idea but who is able to lay it out so a producer can envision their show idea, who knows the ins and out and which hoops to jump through. Who knows what will be a colossal waste of time and at the same time knows exactly the proper path to take? The path that can lift your idea from just an idea to a simple proper one page treatment across the right desk of the right person, in the right fashion, without smacking of desperation and looking as if it has been put together by someone lacking experience...
The big consideration these days is the potential market for advertising. If you can clearly identify the target age groups for your show and the companies who might want to advertise to that market, you will have a very powerful pitch. The Contender was a great example - Everlast and Toyota Tundra broadcast to an audience of millions. Reality shows are about Entertainment, but they are also new vehicles for advertising!
Instead of just being involved in the breaks between the show, Reality TV allows advertisers to become part of the show. And any adman worth his place on Madison Avenue will know that being in the mind of the consumer for the whole show, not just 30 seconds of it, is a very worthy exposure for his client.
For this reason, the role of potential advertisers in the show should be of paramount importance to writers. Reality TV is not just about entertainment - it is also about selling products to the shows target audience. Never forget that.
If your idea is good, you might want to move ahead with it NOW. There are 150 top production companies that do reality shows and are waiting for the next big idea.
There is only question left you need to ask yourself. Is it going to be yours?
