The 29th Olympiad begins tonight! I love the Olympics and me and my family will be parked in fromt of the television for the next two weeks watching as many of the competitions as we can. Beijing, China is a mysterious place, and hopefully the event will come off without a hitch.

Oh my goodness! It is May 19th, and my furnace just kicked on! It is so stinkin' cold, I can't stand it. I can't remember a time when Spring has been this freezing. I am really looking forward warm weather!!! It has been so cold and rainy that my planting efforts have mostly been ruined.

We have been having a lot of rain here lately. When I say a lot, I mean washed away roads, flooding, trees falling over because of the high water levels. Anyway, my dear, darling dog has a thing about going outside to do her "business" when it is raining.

High Prices at Every Turn

I finally broke down and went to the grocery store today. I have never enjoyed shopping for groceries, and now that we don't live near a good grocery store, I have an even more difficult time feeling like I want to go, but necessity required the trip--gotta feed those kids! Anyway, on the way to the the "lovely" Giant grocery store that is in our tiny town, I had to drive past the two gas stations.

Running My Car on Water

My husband and I are thinking about converting our old 1997 Ford Taurus station wagon into a hydrogen/gasoline hybrid. I have been looking into this for awhile now, and I keep on thinking, "What can we lose?" With gasoline prices so high, and our old car just sitting there, why not try it and see how it goes? If it works, we will be ahead, and can then do it to our other cars.

I knew it! Last week I posted an entry about how on ABC during primetime shows, a quick, instantaneous flash of "The Mole" could be seen. Tonight while I was watching "Dancing With the Stars", guess what? You betcha, they had a promo for the return of "The Mole".

I hate to admit it, but I enjoy watching television. Especially lately since the gas prices are so high, and we live in a town that has absolutely nothing to do. So, even though it isn't the best thing to do, I do watch certain shows on television.

Dungeon Dad Josef Friztl

I can't believe not much blogging is going on about this horrible news. The story is terrible, but the more I read about it, the more questions I have. How in the world could this man, this Josef Fritzl from Austria, keep his daughter captive for 24 years and no one even notice? Not even the girl's mother, not her friends, not other family members, not neighbors! How did the mother just accept the babies that her husband brought up from the basement? That is unfathomable! How was this man able to just live a double life all these years? All of his associates seem to be surprized that he did this; no inkling at all???? Why didn't the girl try to get help? What is she like now? Is she getting care? She spent all of her adult life living in a dungeon.

Alright, Already, the Jig is Up, My Apologies

Last week I did a stupid thing and posted an entry about global warming and endangered animals. It was not well thought out, but nevertheless, I did it. The reason the argument was so crappy was because I don't believe a word I wrote. I do believe that global warming is a problem and that we(meaning all of us humans, not just Americans) need to get serious about solving the problem and get over the anger and name calling. The truth of the matter is that even though there are lots of you fellow bloggers and others who know the facts about global warming and all that that encompasses, there are just as many people who have the same warped view that I was trying (and very poorly, I might add) to portray. My own husband, father, and sister make fun of me for believing that we need to start working toward a solution to the climate and environmental trouble we are having. They buy into the Rush Limbaugh/Glen Beck line of thinking that none of this is anything to worry about. I get made fun of daily because I actully do the things that I mentioned in one of the replies. Even those of you who replied to my posts made fun of me, but I still stand by what I am doing. Doing something is better than doing nothing. I guess the thing I am trying to say is that we need to get beyond the arguing. Something must be done besides arguing! In my home, I cannot argue as passionately or loudly or vehmently as you all were able to do with me in the blog. I have to live with my husband, so I have to keep my opinions to myself, and quietly work toward what I think I need to do. I have come to the conclusion that the way things stand in terms of global warming, we are all screwed. Unless, and until the wealthier, and most powerful nations of the world get together and seriously work toward an economically feasible solution, nothing will ever get done. This year's presidential election is crucial, and I am sure John McCain will do nothing, so we need to be careful about whom we choose for the job.

Should We Save Endangered Animals?

I was having a conversation with my eight year old last night, and I don't know what got into me, but I just felt like playing the "devil's advocate" to see what she would say. It seems in elementary schools these days, children are being taught that we all need to help save endangered animals and we all need to change our habits in order to stop the "climate crisis." At face value, I tend to agree that we should be good conservators of what we have been given here on earth, but I am starting to feel a little offended at the assumption of some of these folks who demand that certain animals be saved and that the weather patterns we are seeing now are somehow something we need to intervene in.

Turn on the news at any hour on any given day, and you will hear it. The United States, as well as all other countries are going to hell in a handbasket. When I think back over this week alone, I cannot come up with a single news item that I read, listened to, or saw that wasn't about how bad things are in the world in general, and in the United States in particular.
