Weezy is Back!

Well party members your boy is back. Some of the older members on the site will remember me (hopefully) and the newer members will get to know me (once again, hopefully). I used to be at the party on a fairly regular basis writing about a wide range of things from sports to music to whatever was on my mind at the time.

Due to my need to eat and maintain a roof over my head, I had to find a new job. Once I found this new job it became hard for me to attend the party on a regular basis. No worries I still have this job but now I am a bit more established and have more control over my schedule. Now I'm going to try to get back to spilling my thoughts on a daily basis or so.

Why I love living in New York City

Yesterday I had to go back to work around 6pm (I'm a personal trainer, so i go back and forth to the gym when I have clients). So I hop on a crosstown bus during the height of rush hour. Yesterday it was pouring raining, so people who would normally walk were taking the bus so it was pretty crowded. Luckily I get on the bus before it gets to crowded so I had a front row seat for what was about to happen.

I'm sick...STOP TALKING TO ME!

So I woke up on Monday morning with a chest cold. I started with a dry cough which morphed into a phlegmy cough and eventually my head and sinuses were completely stuffed. My point is I just don't feel well and I don't really want to be bothered.

With that being said, yesterday while I was at work my girl suggested that I should come to her house for the night. My immediate thought was that she knows I am sick and maybe she wants to take care of me. I'm not gonna lie, when I get sick I'm a big baby. I blame my mother for this because whenever I used to get sick she used to play right into the baby thing and that's one of the many reasons I loved her.

Weezy's Back

What's up people. It's been a while for me, like two weeks maybe. Things are starting to pick up at the new job (i've been working at a gym as a personal trainer for almost two months now). This couldn't have started happening at a better time. The reason for this is because I'm very, very, very broke. In my two week absence I had to ask my aunt to borrow a significant amount of money. I hate asking people for anything but asking my aunt for money was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, at least I thought it was going to be. She actually let me borrow the money and didn't give me any grief for it.

Weezy's Thoughts

It's time for me to empty my brain of a few random thoughts. This is mostly about sports but there are a couple other topics sprinkled in. As always I'll look forward to receiving comments, but please remember these are just my thoughts.

1. The country's biggest national crisis has come to an end: Brett Favre will be returning to the Green Bay Packers for the 2006 season. Ok, maybe it wasn't a national crisis, but I wasn't ready to see my favorite player walk away from my favorite game.

Weekend Report: Finally some relaxation

This will be another short edition of the weekend report. The weather literally put a damper of things this weekend. We got a lot of rain here in the Northeast. Normally I would be a little upset about this, but I needed to relax. So'll give the quick run down and I'll even give the rules of an easy drinking game (since they've been doing so well here).

Friday: I guess this would have to be considered the big night of the weekend. Before you get excited, I didn't even leave my apartment. Instead I had Jose and Mary Anne (my lady friend) come over and join me. They each brought over a 18-pack of Coors Light (this is the good thing about having the apartment, I very rarely have to pay for the alcohol that enters the apartment). So combine the 18-packs and the leftover beers from previous gatherings we had about 50 beers. So we decided to do a power hour. During the power hour we decided to get in a game of Kings/Circle of Death (whatever you wanna call it), you know just so we had something to do while the minutes were going by.

Rap & The Black Community

So yesterday I was taking a break at work and me a co-worker were having a conversation about the music we like. It turned out we both like hip-hop, especially hip-hop with a "message". He mentioned that he liked older rap because "back then rappers were saying something." We both agreed that nowadays most rap is about having money, getting girls, and violence. Then he said "this is destroying our black communities."

Weekend Report: Short & Sweet

This edition of my weekend report will be short and sweet. The reason for this is because this was a rather tame weekend for me. I didn't go out Friday and Sunday consisted of me working for four hours in the morning and then spending the rest of the day on the futon (a Sunday tradition).

On Saturday I took a trip out to Dirty Jerz, Hoboken to be exact. Me and my roomie went out there because one of our good friends lives there with his girlfriend. The night actually turned out to be more fun than I thought it would. Usually when we go there we usually end up drinking in their apartment and not much more. This time we actually went out bar hopping and made a night of it.

STOP THE POP!!!

Starting back in college whenever me and my friends would encounter someone with a "popped" collar (wearing the collar up) we would just kind of laugh to ourselves. It got to the point where whenever we encountered a "popped" collar in a bar, somebody would always make the obligatory "i'm gonna go over and tell him his collar is up" comment/joke.

Well I graduated from college in May 2003. Here it is April 2006, almost three years later, and what do I see when I'm walking down the street? I see a Gap display showcasing one of their new products for the spring-- the "popped polo". I was stopped dead in my tracks for like two minutes (in NYC that is an eternity).

Another question for the ladies...replies wanted

This morning I was watching Mike & Mike in the Morning on ESPN2. It's a great show that I recommend everybody watch if they like sports. Anyway, they were talking about Maria Sharapova. She is a female tennis player who has won like one or two majors and she is hot. She is not just hot, she is really hot.

Anyway the question was brought whether she should be offended that people (men) bring up her looks whenever her name gets mentioned. Like I said she is an accomplished tennis player. We're not talking about Anna Kournikova here, Maria actually has game.

City Living or Suburban Serenity

I'm from Brooklyn, New York. East Flatbush area to be exact. I lived in Brooklyn for the majority of my life. The times I didn't live there were the years 7-12 (Mt. Vernon, Weschester County), my high school years (Ardmore, PA) and my college years (Ithaca, NY). Whenever I had extended school breaks I always returned to Brooklyn.

The thing I loved most about living in the city was how independent it made me. As a young child I went to the store by myself, I walked to school by myself, and I got around by myself. By the time I was in junior high school I could pretty much make it around all of Brooklyn. I would ride my bike or simply hop on a bus. I thought all kids my age all over the world were doing this. Then I went to high school.

Weekend Report: A Test of Endurance

This edition of my weekend report is chock full of activities to report. This weekend included a wedding reception, a visiting friend and a bachelor party that included an open bar. Not to mention the fact that I worked both Saturday and Sunday. So I've decided that I'm gonna go at it day by day.

Friday: I was done with work on Friday at 9:30am. This means I started working at 5:30am. I know, good times. Needless to say a nap was in order for the afternoon. Once I woke up it was time to get ready for the wedding reception. My friend and former co-worker Jesse was getting married. The reception was being held at a place called the Tribeca Rooftop. This is the type of place that I would normally not be let into. So I decided to take advantage of the open bar and bring the place down to my level.

Racism & Sport

I just got finished reading a post by JohnnyP5379 titled "Barry Bonds and the Syringe". I read all the comments and I was gonna comment myself. My comment was going to basically say that people are treating Bonds like he is guilty until he somehow proves that he is innocent (eventhough, he has not failed a drug test given by Major League). As I was typing my comment I realized that there is a bigger issue at hand. That issue is racism.

No Speaka Duh Englis

Over the weekend a couple of events happened that got me thinking about this current immigration debate. I'll tell you guys/gals what happened in the two incidents and then I'll state my opinion and pose a question.

Incident number one occured Saturday while I was at work. I work in a gym as a personal trainer. We have a maintenance/cleaning crew that is all hispanic. So one of the gym members comes up to me and tells me that there is no toilet paper in one of the bathrooms. I then go up to one of the maintenance guys and inform him of the situation and he just looks at me and replies, "Espanol."

Weekend Report: My Favorite Uncle & Alec Baldwin

So here we are again on another Monday. For the second week in a row I'm gonna fill all of you in on what I did this weekend, not because anyone asked but because I want to.

So Friday after I got done with work, my girl texted me and asked me if I wanted to meet up with her and a bunch of her work friends for happy hour. Now I'm a guy that loves a good happy hour. Unfortunately a couple of my good friends moved out west and I haven't really had many opportunities to get to happy hour. Plus I've found that hanging out with a bunch of teachers isn't really all that fun unless you're a teacher.
