Anti-Gay Marriage Law Repealed

california | civil unions | Gay Marriage

The California Supreme Court struck down the anti-gay marriage law today, basically opening up California as the second state that allows gay marriage. Not that it's overly surprising, considering that the city of San Francisco was supporting its overrun, plus, of course, it's California.

Disappearing Socks

laundry | lost socks

If you have a house that you live in, you probably have a thief residing right under your four walls that you can't do anything about. I know I have one; I can't prove it yet, but I know it's there.

Another Cute Kid Story

I decided I wanted an ice cream cone, my first of the season, from my favorite soft ice cream place, which is across town. I hopped in the car and drove over there, got out, and walked towards the kiosk. There was one family sitting on a picnic bench, enjoying their ice cream. The smallest of the bunch started waving her hands furiously at me, so I waved back.

Australians And Their Beer!

I know there's a joke in here somewhere, but I'll let Sire and the other Aussies come up with it instead.

DARWIN, Australia (AP) - An Australian man has been fined after buckling in a case of beer with a seat belt but leaving a 5-year-old child to sit on the car's floor, police said Tuesday.

The Cracker

childrens stories | funny kids

I always seem to be posting bad stories that involve kids, so this time I'm going to post a funny one.

Yesterday my wife and I went to a party being thrown by one of our neighbors, who we only met three days ago. I tell you, people just invite us to the oddest things.

Child Dominatrix?

Bad Parents | Child Abuse | child prostitution | dominatrix

At this point, this doesn't surprise me all that much, though it should. Parents have been arrested for training their 12-year old to be a dominatrix and have been selling her services as such. They trained her by having her watch porn; doesn't that sound like a lovely Saturday night at home?

Japanese Suicides With Detergent Mixture?

There seems to be a disturbing trend in Japan these days. I've always known the pressure in Japan to perform was tough, and, oddly enough, suicide isn't as easy to do as it seems, even with the numbers of people who do it.

When Governments Don't Care About Their People

government corruption | Katrina | Myanmar | natural disasters | POVERTY

So, the powers that be in Myanmar have decided they don't want the help of the U.N. or anyone else, and they're going to hoard the food supplies for themselves rather than take care of their own people. Why am I not surprised by this?

Was I Right To Be Bothered By This?

bad physicians | Cancer | grief and anger | hospice | kidney failure

I'm close to being within a month of the anniversary of my dad's passing. One would think that after almost six years I'd be handling this entire episode better than I do, but so be it.

There's one incident that I still feel is one of the worst I had to deal with, something that makes me angry every time I think of it, but I'm not sure if I'm right in being upset (it also upset my mother) or whether this is just how things are.

Caste System Leads To Burning Of Little Girl

attempted murder | caste system | Child Abuse | India

I've always heard about this caste system thing in India, but I didn't know much about it. I still don't, but I know that it's led to the burning of a 6 year old, who was pushed into burning embers because she was considered as contaminating a path normally reserved for higher caste people.

Send Out Good Wishes To Xingtaio

Many of you long timers remember our old buddy Xingtaio. Well, he's been a bit under the weather over the last bunch of months, which has kind of put him out of commission. He's now back on the mend, but I thought it would be nice to give him a shout out to help him catch up quicker.

Wrote My Second Book

I've finally written a second book, hopefully proving to myself that I'm not a one trick pony. Thing is, this second book is quite short, and it's going to remain an ebook for awhile, but it still counts as a book. I'm not going to market it here, but I am going to talk about the process.

Captive For 24 Years

captivity | Child Abuse | family relations | incest | kidnapping

Every day it seems we learn that life is indeed stranger than fiction.

In the news today is a story coming out of Austria where police have found a woman who's been held in captivity by this man for about 24 years. That's bad enough, but of course it gets worse. Seems the woman is actually the 73 year old man's daughter, and he's fathered 4 children by her, including one, 19 years old, who's presently in the hospital in a very serious condition that hasn't been disclosed yet. Supposedly, that's what started the search for her mother in the first place.

Teenager Repellent

Well, this is a first. Seems there's a device that's called the Mosquito that repels teenagers. Supposedly this device emits a high tone that kind of sounds like a buzzing mosquito, but for the most part it can only be heard by teens around age 15 to young adults around 23. This is because they still have sensitive hair cells in their inner ears.

Al Wilson & Paul Davis Are Gone

70's music

Two favorite icons from the 70's have both passed away on the same day, and they deserve their own bit of recognition.

Al Wilson sang the song "Show And Tell", which went to number one in January of 1974 and sold 3 million copies. It was also number one on what was then called the Soul Charts, now titled R&B.
