The Movement Collective is back and proud to present From the Ground dance showcase, a look into the eccentric minds of some of NYC’s hottest up and coming choreographers. From the Ground hits the catwalk with an explosion of energy bound to have audiences on the edge of their seats. The Movement Collective’s very own, Alaine Handa, Sarah Milosevich, Molly Campbell, Briana Fails, Anne Lukaska, and Roger Dunson, bring you through a tour of virtual reality, political and social satire, tornados, wildly hot and bawdy burlesque, disturbing recollections of sexual abuse, and censorship. Along with The Movement Collective’s choreographers, From the Ground will also showcase four guest choreographers to celebrate the diversity of dance in New York City. Among them are Shelley Hardin, Ariel Grossman (York Danceworks), Amy Secada (Kinetic Junglist Movement), and Graham dancers/choreographers (Laura Beneitez, Carolina Marquez, Esther Eiras).

Thanksgiving plans

(disclaimer: I'm just having b**** rant, if you don't want read very opinionated views stop reading now)

There is always so much food around the holidays. Less time to go and workout and more time going to different functions that involve eating and is revolved around it and the company is secondary. But the company is the correct reason why you should go to these functions. I know the underlying reason is to go and pig out on the food. Its no wonder obesity is such a problem in the US. The holiday rolls around and every gains 15 lbs. Don't eat so much people. Control yourselves. Its hard but you have to do it. Yo-yo dieting is really not good for you. If you want to wear those skimpy clothes in the summer - well you're going to have to with the heat wave every summer. Please don't make me cringe when I see that cellulite and big belly fat bursting out of your sides. Anyways, keep the workouts regular. Portion control your foods. Eat when you're hungry. Stop after you've finished your plate. I'm going to keep on running on that treadmill until I've burned the extra weight.

Weddings

I do bridal make up and have done quite a number of weddings this year. I think its really rewarding to see the "blushing" bride at her most beautiful. Weddings to me are like performances. All the preparation and on the day of, things go wrong but yet when those lights go on, everything falls into place. Thats why I do it. It seems like people are getting married left and right. I heard that this is a good year to get married according to the Chinese fortune teller. When its my turn to get married, I think I'll be hiring a wedding planner to help out because I don't think I could ever plan an entire wedding on my own. Of course, as a make up artist, I wouldn't need to hire a make up artist.

Step up - the movie

The movie Step Up is supposed to be like every other dance movie that has ever been released with a love story, a melding of two completely different worlds, dance styles and culminate with a big performance in the end. *yawn* But since I'm a dancer, I feel like it is my right to support dance movies for coming out because it attracts the majority of people. Its like that show "So you think you can dance?".

A review on GO!

Here is a link to the review found on theaterscene.net on our most recent performance. Check it out at
http://www.theaterscene.net/ts/articles.nsf/D/8EE1BCFE23FB1C6C8525714100408DE8

Theaterscene.net gets about 150 hits per day. So its small but big enough audience readership that its pretty credible so check it out. I'm going to attach to the article anyway if you're too lazy to go to the link.

GO!

Open Floor Dance & The Movement Collective presented GO! This weekend at Dance Forum. Due to my extreme involvement to the show this review will have a bias. My choreography debuted in New York at this show as well.
"Everyday" is a piece in which I blended video and dance together. The piece explored the non-relationship between strangers on the street. We pass by so many people everyday without or very little contact whether physically or with our eyes. What you are going through in your life is probably going to overlap or in parallel with that person sitting across you in the subway/bus/etc. I shot scenes of people standing, crossing the street, walking, etc. as well as some dance/choreographed sequences combining dance and pedestrian movement for the video. While the dance is going on the video is projected onto a screen behind the dancers. I had fun choreographing the piece and shooting the video sequences.

Klong - the Thai restaurant

We had Thai food at Klong last night for dinner. The prices were reasonable and the portions were decent sized. We ordered the grilled squid legs, green curry puff, pad thai, and mint fried rice. The grilled squid legs were actually tasty, I am not a big fan of squid so my boyfriend ate most of them. It came with a garlic spicy sauce and I used that as a dipping sauce for my curry puffs. The curry puffs were filled with potato and chicken, although I would've liked to have the puffs come with its own dipping sauce and perhaps not just three of them but four puffs.
