Improving Bloggerparty

Hola bloggers.

It's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy and haven't had a chance to more than check in and make sure things were running smoothly the past couple months.

I see that a lot of familiar faces are still around, and some not. I see some new faces, too, which is a good thing.

For the past few months, despite not actively posting, I have been coming up with plans for the future of Bloggerparty and what direction I want the site to go in.

Recent Downtime

We've been experiencing some unexpected downtime lately. The problem is being worked on, we're getting more RAM installed within the next week which should help during our high traffic times.

The good news is, it means we're growing. Another server is also in the future as we outgrow the one we're on. A little bit of downtime here and there as we do grow can be expected, but I can assure you we'll be brought back up as soon as possible and the problems aren't going unnoticed.

Ways YOU Can Help Promote Bloggerparty

Here's a few ways you can help promote Bloggerparty. More traffic is good for everyone.

Add Bloggerparty to your Myspace friends.

Add Bloggerparty to your del.icio.us bookmarks.

Add Bloggerparty to your Blinklist.

Digg it.

You can also download the Alexa toolbar. Alexa rankings are calculated by those who have their toolbar. The more members with the toolbar, the better rankings we get.

Some Bug Fixes and Theme Improvements

I fixed some bugs and made some improvements to the various themes. The one you'll probably notice the most is the privatemsg bug that kept switching your private message status off and on. It shouldn't do that anymore.

I've also done some other things you probably won't notice, just improving the way several things work. Phew!

The "read more" was also getting lost in many of the themes, so it is now more apparent for visitors to find.

Write Reviews, Get Paid

Bloggerparty's first of several network sites has launched, Reviewparty.com! It's works similarly to Bloggerparty but is for the writing of reviews. Right now, you can only write book and music reviews, but I will be adding more product review options like crazy in the next few days, as well as some other features. It's pretty bare bones right now, but feel free to begin writing over there.

Referral Party - Less Than Two Weeks Left!

The Referral Party is still going. It ends April 15 - less than two weeks left!

realitycheck is waaay in the lead with 12 referrals. And a dozen or so of you have 1 referral each. So it's still easy to get up there and win one of the prizes!

1st place - $25
2nd place - $15

A New Look for Bloggerparty - FEEDBACK PLEASE!

A new theme has been designed for Bloggerparty, but before I go ahead and change it, I'd like some feedback. I'm using the theme right now, but you can also set it as your own theme by going to your account and clicking on "Edit".

Test it out, give it some time before deciding whether you like or hate it, and then let me know how you like it. It's not perfect yet, but the current theme is childish looking, so this is hopefully an improvement.

Traffic Exchanges and Protecting Bloggerparty Members

Luckily, Bloggerparty has not had much trouble with people signing up for traffic exchanges. But we do have in place measures to help protect myself and Bloggerparty members from getting in trouble with AdSense because of illegal traffic sources.

Put simply, traffic and click exchanges are banned from referring to our site, meaning that if somebody does sign up the site or their blog on the site on one of these websites, when somebody using such a website surfs to our site, they get an Access Denied and cannot even view the website.

Just A Quick Update on Bloggerparty Downtime

Some of you may have noticed a few minutes up to an hour of downtime here and there the past couple of days. I just want to assure you all that it is not a server issue, but a registrar one. So, we've transferred registrars and will hopefully no longer experience any difficulties.

Thanks.

Alternate Method to Reaching Bloggerparty Admin

Hey bloggers. The site was down for nearly an hour tonight and I had no idea, even though I was sitting at my computer working on something the whole time.

If the site goes down, feel free to email me at an alternate email address (since I won't be able to receive any from bloggerparty.com), brenda AT brendasknot DOT com.

It shouldn't be a regular occurance. Thanks and happy blogging.

Make Sure Your AdSense ID Is Correct

It just came to my attention that ads are not displaying for some people, and this is because they've added a space after putting in their Publisher ID.

Please make sure you put in your AdSense Publisher ID correctly and without any spaces! I've fixed a few of them but I can't get them all. If you check your AdSense account and have 0 page impressions, this could be why.

Ability to Flag Posts Added

Added the feature allowing you to "flag" blog entries. Right now, there's just one generic "flag" - if the post is flagged enough times, the post is unpublished.

Please, use with care. Only flag posts that are against Google's Terms of Service (such as explicit sexual content), plagarism, or spam, such as an advertisement with no content.
