Black Crowes - Warpaint

Black Crowes | Chris Robinson | Warpaint

The Black Crowes are back, and as good as ever. Their new album, Warpaint, sounds exactly how they SHOULD sound. The Robinson brothers did not try to make something they are not, or to re-capture the unadulterated rocking of their classic Southern Harmony, they just made some home-grown real American music. A tad more country, a tab more bluesy, which if you have been seeing them in concert for the past 10 years, is exactly the direction they are going. Don't get me wrong, they can still be the "Worlds most Rock'n Roll, Rock n Roll band" as they have been labeled, but they are just adding to their diversity. Song highlights in include "Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution" (perhaps the most typical Crowes song on the record). "Walk Believer Walk" another rocker with Chris howling and screaming throughout like only he can. "Oh Josephine" is more of a country ballad that will send chills down your spine. Cover of "God's Got It" is perhaps the easiest song to like on the first listen, and will soon be a live show favorite. The album will not disappoint, like plenty of Crowes music it may take a listen or 2 or 3 to fully grasp what they are doing, but once it hits you, you will find this cd in your rotation for months to come.
