Better Jobs, More Money in Mexico? That's News to Me!

Interesting that many of the protesting crowds mad at Congress for trying to reform immigration policy continue to carry Mexican flags. Isn't Mexico the country they are falling all over themselves to get away from?

It would make more sense for pro-immigrant protesters to display American flags in prodigious amounts. If they did that, they not only would offer consistency -- instead of confusion -- to their message, they would rally many otherwise ambivalent people to their cause.

As it stands now, flying hundreds of Mexican flags reaffirms the views of anti-immigrant fans -- that the allegiance of undocumented aliens really lies with Mexico, not with the United States; i.e., they deserve to be deported, as soon as possible.

One school principal locally, himself an American of Hispanic persuasion, was so mad at his students for showing the Mexican flag that he grabbed one of the flags and tore it up in front of them.

Maybe he has a point.

In any event, if you're fleeing a nation because it offers a lifestyle that is so terrible, then why fly its flag?

Get it right, then we'll respect what you have to say.
