There are so many diet plans out there that claim to have the best diet program. But what are the best ones really? Many studies have shown that The Atkins Diet is still very popular and effective. Celebrities boast about the fabulous effects this diet has had and it’s also been shown to be one of the few diet plans that maintain health while helping you lose weight. The diet is very strict however and must be followed exactly as instructed.
On the Atkins Diet, a person drastically reduces their carbohydrates and consumes mainly protein and fat. One of the reasons Atkins is so popular is because it includes food that is usually forbidden when dieting. Some of these foods include: meat, eggs, and cheese. This diet also allows you to cook with butter, use mayo, and use olive oil to dress your salads. It has also been said to reduce your appetite in the process, another plus for dieters who sometimes feel as though they are starving themselves when dieting.
Although this may sound like you can eat whatever you’d like on this diet, carbohydrates are severely restricted. A person is allowed 20 net grams of carbohydrates for the first two weeks. ‘Net grams’ is equal to the amount of carbohydrates minus fibre. After the first two weeks, more carbohydrates are allowed but you still cannot eat refined sugar. After the initial two week period, it remains strict as a person cannot eat fruits, vegetables, or whole grain foods.
Over time, the dieter may gradually increase carbs as long as weight maintenance is still being combined with weight loss. The plan has now encouraged exercise as part of the program but this was not part of it when the diet was first introduced. It’s a wise idea to do full research of the Atkins Diet before starting though as the intricacies of this diet should be fully understood but are beyond the scope of this article.
