Berlin "No More Words"

The band Berlin was fronted by '80s synth-pop sex symbol Terri Nunn, who several years before joining the Los Angeles-based band had auditioned for the role of Princess Leia in the movie "Star Wars." She obviously didn't get the role, but, years later, somewhat ironically, Berlin would have their biggest hit with a song from another blockbuster movie when "Take My Breath Away" appeared in "Top Gun."

In 1984, however, they had yet to have a Top 40 hit despite getting heavy airplay with songs like "Sex (I'm A...)" and "The Metro" from their debut EP Pleasure Victim. The release of their first full-length album, Love Life, produced their first Top 40 single, though, when "No More Words" turned the trick.

Producer Giorgio Moroder, who had been the chief architect behind Donna Summer's '70s hits, gave Berlin a glossy sheen as evidenced on "No More Words." Nunn's no much the sexual vamp as a woman who's had enough on the dance/rock track with a slick electronic riff. The song cracked the US Top 40 in April and would spend two months climbing to a peak of #23.

It would be Berlin's only Top 40 hit until two years later when they would top the chart with "Take My Breath Away."
