Bending On the Joints of the Toes

foot | pedicure

Bending on the joints of the toes is known as hammertoes. The bending usually happens in toes other than the big toe. It causes discomfort while wearing shoes. Pain, corns and calluses are the common symptoms.

People usually ignore hammertoes in the beginning and consider it as a small deformity. But the bending on the toes can be easily treated during this stage. Most people take hammertoes seriously in an advanced stage. By then the bend would have become more rigid and will need surgery.

Ill-fitting shoes are a major cause for hammertoes. If your second toe is longer than the big toe, never force it into a toe box. Always be careful while buying shoes.

A variety of non-surgical treatment is available for hammertoes that are not rigid.
