Be a Man of Your Word
My mother always taught me to be a woman of my word. She said I should let my "yeses be yes, and my nos be no." Growing up in a Christian family and community I learned the value of my word at a very young age. To say something was to make a commitment. You shouldn't have to supplement it with an extra emphasis, like "I promise" or "I swear." Your word should be good enough as is. I definitely agree with that. But at some point I guess you just lose that. Actually, I've come to learn that you lose most things (or at least I do) you learn as a child. I've made commitments I never actually expected to fulfill and others I didn't anticipate that I wouldn't. I have not become a woman of my word. And I think today was the first time it really hit me. My word is no longer good enough for someone to just accept. I now must accompany it with promises, with conditions. And that's a very unfortunate thing.
Sorry, that was just definitely some rambling that meant nothing and I'm sure made no sense. I'm kinda distracted right now and very tired. Hopefully the next blog will be a little more structured.
