Bad TV, Curling, and a little bit of Psychology

I am a sucker for bad and mediocre television. There, I said it. I won’t ever claim they are good shows, but some of the popcorn stuff on television is riveting in its own simple and elementary way. To blow me away, you have to have writing. Bad acting I can live with (except those two kids on 7th Heaven), but I need writing at the level of the first four West Wing seasons, Seinfeld in its prime, or Law and Order. Currently, I enjoy the Three and a Half Men writing as well as a select few other shows like SCRUBS and, again, Law and Order. To simply get my eyes, though, you need only be fair.

Sure, my real love is sports on television. The writing is solid (that’s a joke) and they are the best reality shows on television (can you BELIEVE Kobe and Shaq hugged? Did you see Garnett hit that guy with the basketball? Etc.). It is all fairly good water cooler/coffee pot fodder for the working masses.

What I don’t understand is why I was so mesmerized by Olympic curling. I barely knew what was going on, yet I was riveted. If someone from north of the boarder can help me on that, I would appreciate it. It looks like fun, but again I have no idea what is going on.

So what is my point? I don’t really have one to be honest. I know I have been away from the blog for a few days, but school and work have called. One I pay and the other pays me. For now, my blog does neither of those, so here I am doing the blog equivalent of journaling.

I wanted to bring up something from school, though. For my Educational Psychology class (a double whammy for me since my wife is a school psychologist YIKES) we took optimism tests. I apparently am on the low end of self esteem, but on the high end of optimism. Go figure…no, really, please go figure because that makes no sense to me.

So anyway this was a nice break from political opinions and discussions of history in the US. I hope it wasn’t a total waste of your time, but if it was, it was a short one I hope.

Curling

Haha, this isn't the first post about curling. Why is it so interesting to so many people all of a sudden? Such a strange game!

Curling

I've also been taken in by curling. I've come to the conclusion that curling is a combination of marbles and shufflepuck on ice.
