Bad News For Baseball

This was seriously not a good week for baseball. The death of Kirby Puckett, the Hall of Famer who stole the hearts of the Minnesota fans, was a blow to those who love the sport.

Puckett's career was a Cinderella story, until bad health and legal problems broke the magic spell.

The other nasty piece of baseball news this week was the continuing installment of the Barry Bonds fiasco.

Excerpts of a new book, "Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, Balco and the Steroids Scandal That Rocked Professional Sports," was printed in Sports Illustrated. The author documents the bizarre behavior and chemical abuse of the talented, but flawed, player.

Baseball has always had it's share of scandals and tragedies, but it seems like these kinds of stories come more often now.
