Az School district the worst?

I heard the other day the AZ school districts were the worst in the nation. I can't find the link to read the article so if anyone has it or has heard anythign about it, please shoot me a line. It wouldn't surprise me by any means. I remember the things that went on why I was in school and level of education being further behind (I went to a private school till high shcool) When I got in public school I was doing work that I had done in elementary school at the private school. How bad is that. My son is now in a private school till the end of the year when I plan on taking him back out and home schooling him. Do we really value our children that little?

i heard it was Oregon
that has the worst public school system...so now i am starting to believe the entire US is suffering from poor educational systems. in oregon we have the shortest school year in the nation. my son is only 2, so we have a while to worry about this......but it looks like he'll be in private school. although now that we are having baby #2, i have no idea how we will afford 2 private school tuitions. it really is a shame......

School systems
I know our school system here is bad. Right now my son is in private school till the end of December when I'm going to home school him full time. Private school is so expensive and I have 3 kids now. I've been homeschooling him on top of what he's learning at a private school thru a public schol distance learning program because he gets to go as fast as he wants thru their program. They want to put him in second grade after December. He's so much further ahead than the private school is teaching him right now. His teacher said she's run out of ideas for him. He's only 5 years old. I'm glad that he's so smart but I can't even find a private school that will keep up with him. Way back when I was in early elementary, I went to a private school where I was given all the books and told how much I had to do. As long as I did the minimum required work, I could go as far ahead as I wanted. That would work great for him but I searched for 2 years before I put him in school and couldn't find a program like that anywhere around here anymore. He's going to be smarter than me if he keeps going at this rate and I certainly won't be able to teach him then! Once I hit high school I went to public school (I was in private schools thru junior high) I was learning all that I learned in elementary school. I didn't get any further than that for the most part. Now I'm getting my BS in Business and struggling to get thru my algebra class! The public school he would be going to here is bad. Every few months I hear about someone who tried to kidnap kids from there. I live just behind the school too. Not to mention that the kids are always writing in markers all over the ground and play yard and they can't even spell basic words. All the kids here are all older, probably at least 7 and up and should be able to spell basic words. What's wrong with these schools?
that is depressing
but sadly doesnt surprise me. a lot of the education majors that i went to college with were not the sharpest tools in the shed and i rememeber thinking that these were the people that were gonna be teaching my future kids? i dont know what i am going to do with my kids. i'd love to hear about your experiences home schooling. might give me some inspiration. will you blog about it? i really would like my kids to attend school, but i dont want them to be held back because the teachers cant keep up with them, and we def cant afford any of the upper crust elitest schools.....blah. this sucks.
oh...and that is really scary about the school having so many kidnapping attempts. there is no way iw uld put my son there either.
