Well, I came across my first assignment the other day. You are told to read the example copy from a highly successful copywriter. This particular copy was mailed back in the 70s/80s and resulted in over a billion dollars in revenue for the company it was designed for! So, I had to read the letter 10 times, then copy it out 3 times. Quite clever really. From the word 'go' you are subconsciously analysing the structure of a successful letter, encouraging your mind to recognise what makes money-making copy. After reading and copying that very fist letter, my eyes were opened! Whenever I saw these type of letters in the past, I only saw them as junk. But they are actually very clever pieces of work. It makes me want to be able to write stuff like that already! After that assignment my brain was pretty buzzed and my hand was killing me! But I'd learned some really valuable techniques, I think. A few pages on in the course and I came across my next assignment: the same thing with a different letter! My poor hand! But I understand what they are trying to encourage through these monotonous exercises. And I'm determined to give this course my best shot. Will keep you posted! :)
